Why did the makers of Resident Evil change the series from Survival Horror to FPS?

It started with Resident Evil 4 and with Resident Evil 6's release, many people are panning 6 as the worst one in the series. What I read online is that the series went from being survival horror to a lukewarm FPS. I have played the first three releases in the game and thought they were awesome but RE6 is just wrong.

Update:

So Lilmark, you think the company is trying to snatch some of the FPS sales by turning an old but good franchise into a bad clone of a popular genre of games? Why would they betray the followers of the series that just want a newer game that can be played on something besides a PS?

Resident evil is not an FPS, its third person. The only resident evil games that can be noted as FPS's are Umbrella and Dark side chronicles but they are more of on rail shooters than anything. Capcom wanted to create a larger audience by making the game appealing to the average xbox 360 or PS3 gamer by combining both survival horror and third person action gameplay. When you start to blend multiple genres into one game, its becomes an absolute mess. RE6 suffered the same problems as RE5 which was an identity crisis. It couldn't decide to be an action game or survival horror. Companies will try to create a product in which any consumer can jump in and play but it comes at the cost of gameplay and fan service. RE6 isn't horrible but it's quite a disappointment.

The changes started in Resident Evil 4, which was critically acclaimed and was (and maybe still is) the best selling Resident Evil game at the time. It was up for Game of the Year awards and had a metacritic score of 96. Obviously the makers were very happy with the changes from Resident Evil 4 and thought that by keeping the game as a 3rd person shooter survival horror hybrid that they would appeal to a broader market and get better sales.

Well I'm thinking they tried to make it a survival horror, and it may not have been very scary, and also gaming elements have changed to more of a FPS type game especially in Operation Raccoon City, also many games are A LOT better at survival horror though RE:4 was really good, games like Dead Space have surpassed it in the horror part.

Go to youtube and look up Top Games for 2012 or Top Games for 2013. Majority of them are FPS types in one way or another. It's what's "in" right now. Hurray for Xcom for saving me from the repetitiveness.

Because games change and adapt. If you want Survival Horror then play the first 3, it's like music, they change to what they feels best for them.

They say they want the game to appeal to the west. Idiots. Just like JRPG's this gen.
