my laptop has OS (C) and DATA (D)

not really. Because generally there will not be any place for placing the 2nd HDD.
In your case, C and D are the partitions of the single Hard disc Drive. C and D are also called Drives only, C drive and D drive etc. But generally its part of single HDD device.
Right click on my computer, manage, storage, disc management.
here you will see like Disc0, Disc1 and so on if there are more HDDs. IF only one, you will see only Disc0, and there you will see your D and C partitions.

not every laptop can install 2 hdd. but if you install a new hdd, you will need to format it with your OS installation CD.
