No, I dont believe that in order to pursue a masters degree in counseling in the near future that your undergraduate degree would need to be in psychology. I know many people that go to graduate school for M.A.'s in Psychology or Ph.D.'s and their undergrad degrees were in different fields of study. I would suggest to pick a major that you enjoy and you know that you can do well in and earned the highest grades possible which will serve you well in your graduate studies endeavors. If you like English, go for it and I am certain that it wouldnt matter what your undergrad degree was in. If you have a good undergrad gpa and all the other prerequisites and letters of recommendation needed for grad school, I dont believe you would have a problem going for an MA in counseling. Good luck!
