How common, interior door handle fails to open 2007+ pickup?

How common is it for the door opening mechanism to fail, so the interior handle does not open the door on 2007 or newer GMC or Chevy pickup trucks?

I have a 2008 GMC Extended Cab 4WD work truck with 52000 miles and suddenly the driver's door will not open from the inside (something must have come loose or broke inside the door). That would seem to be a serious safety hazard because it could be possible to be trapped in the vehicle in an accident, especially if power went out for the power windows, so you could not reach the outside handle. I have been driving for over 44 years and have never seen a failure like that, including vehicles well over either or both 10 years and 100,000 miles. But the only GM vehicle I had was a 72 Buick Electra 225 and its whole bench seat broke out of the floor and fell backwards when it rusted out around the seat mounts at 8 years old.

I apologize for the inconvenience caused by this issue. A GM Certified Mechanic should be able to properly diagnose and repair the door or at least provide a quote. If you would like an appointment arranged, please send an e-mail to gmcustsvc@yahoo.com with the VIN#, your name, and situation. I hope this is resolved quickly for you.

Will have to go in with Patrick on this one, possible someone tried to slimjim your door to gain access or did depending on if you notcied anything missing or they got spooked & failed to get it. Also, depends on how much you man handle the door when opening it, I have seen people break those handles off from manhandling it. It isnt a bale of hay that needs to be tossed over the fence. But it is the outside door handle that usually breaks. Also, no it wouldnt be a serious safety hazard since you have another door or 3 other doors to exit if it is a 4 door vehicle.

Someone tried to break into your truck using a slim jim. When that happens, there is a little white clip that breaks off the linkage at the door latch. Take off your interior moldings, switches and handles to find it. If you do not have any experience with working on vehicle doors, take it to a body shop and they should do it for $50 - $100.

There has to be a little change there someplace. Appears like a little button. It can be in the "in" function when the door is closed and must pop out with the door open. It usually is easier to seek out it on the passenger facet. Will have to be at the entrance of the door on the submit. Most of the time most effective have got to spray a bit wd40 on it to get it to come out.
