As Oregon's biggest City, Portland has it all. Not on the same level as places like Seattle, LA, NYC. But Portland is the nation's 19th largest city, so it's not exactly something to sneer at.

Portland's restaurant scene I would pit against just about any other city. While other places may have more world class dining, per capita, and based on density, Portland has them all beat. There are several streets where you can just randomly pick a place and be guaranteed of a great meal.

Clubs are a bit harder to quantify as people's tastes vary greatly, there are several decent scene places but most tend to be pretty cliquish. If you're into a specific genre of music, odds are you'll have to wait for one of the regular clubs to have a theme night (luckily at least three places I know of do this.)

If you're into local bands, alt-rock, "hipster music," punk, and "up and coming bands," Portland has a thriving music scene. Several famous musicians and bands started here. The Portland Mercury (www.portlandmercury.com/ ) is the go to place for that. (Including a pretty good Jazz and Blues scene.)

As the next biggest city, Eugene has an OK city life. It's a college town, with a small college known as University of Oregon. It has it's own charm and uniqueness, but falls short of Portland's offerings.

From there you'll be much more limited. Most of the cities over 15k population are suburbs of Portland. The rest are working class or tourist towns that are limited in their offerings and tend to close early, even on the weekends. Ashland, Hood River, Roseburg and Astoria have downtown areas with good dining options, but little in the way of clubs and music compared to Portland.

Portland, by far, has the greatest selection.

    Eugene does well.

Bend, Hood River, Seaside, and Ashland all have *some* of those, but not much—only two or three choices of each type.

    Portland. Eugene.
