How important is really free speech to you?

When you hear a politician telling lies and distortions, do you think about shutting him up, or about responding to his comments with your own fact-checking and interpretations? Do you feel there should be limits on free speech because of the extent to which some people abuse it? Or do you take heart that they are just making fools of themselves?

Leon needs to THINK about what he said! He ACTUALLY prayed that Jesus would Remove Obama and as Jesus is no longer here on Earth to do that; the ONLY way to do so is for Obama to DIE. So Leon actually PRAYED for Obama's death. Now wasn't THAT an act of Christianity? Eh?

On the other hand, Aunty, Freedom of speech IS one of the most important of rights that we have. Whether or not we agree with what is said is irrelevant, they HAVE the right to say it. Even if what they say is nothing but lies, inflammatory language and hate speech. However WE have the right to counter such speech with speech that will oppose what they say and in just as vehement language, if need be. Freedom of Speech is a double edged sword, Aunty. It cuts BOTH ways, and THAT is a GOOD thing.

Freedom of speech is not license to lie. There is a difference. When a politician lies to get elected, as Romney has done almost from the first day of his campaign, then his message is fraught with problems and it is important to speak out with facts when ANYONE, politicians in particular, tell a lie.

It is important to allow all messages to get out, but in the context of politicians, there should be a mandate that in order to say something about the opposition, then legitimate, verifiable sources should be used, not edited soundbites.

Freedom of speech is among the first rights established in the first amendment and framed in the Declaration of Independence.

So far, two posters here has expressed themselves freely, using nothing but attacks. That is the wonderful thing about freedom of speech.....it allows stupid people to show us all just exactly how stupid they really are. It makes it a lot easier to wed out self-destructive idiots from our circles of friends that way.

Voltaire once said, " I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it."

I agree with that quote for the most part. The only time that I disagree with it is when what someone says directly or indirectly causes rioting, incites violence, causes bullying or something negative that snowballed from that initial statement. Other than that, I can tolerate stupidity or lies coming out of someone's mouth. I don't like it but I can live with it.

Free speech is vital but Obama is very pro-government. Hopefully Jesus removes him.
