Why doesnt everyone have herpes?

Question

I was doing some research on google about herpes. One fact that popped up was that 80-90% of adults have or have had oral herpes. Another fact was that herpes can be transmitted from oral sex to genitals (genital herpes). Also another fact was that herpes can be transmitted when no symptoms are present.

Now if 90% ish of adults have oral herpes, and oral sex is relatively common, then why don't 90%+ have genital herpes? Not everyone can be that educated in herpes and even know to abstain as well... Also, if someone argues that oral sex isn't common, another question can be "do all porn stars/prostitutes have genital herpes then?"

I think you're misunderstanding something.   Yes, it is possible to transmit herpes type 1 from mouth to genitals, however, there are several factors that mean it doesn't happen all that readily.

-The herpes simplex type 1 virus that causes most oral herpes is much happier on the face than on the genitals.  It *can* be transmitted to the genitals, but not all that readily.  Most genital herpes cases are caused by a different virus, herpes simplex type 2.
-Two, if you already have herpes type 1 on your face, you're much less likely to get it on your genitals because your body has already built up a fair bit of immunity.
-Three, while it is possible to transmit the herpes virus when no symptoms are present, the odds are much, much lower.
-The majority of people who get genital HSV-1 only ever have a single outbreak.

Pop is obviously wrong. Cold sores, ie, fever blisters, ARE herpes simplex and you have it forever. It's also treated with medications for herpes of any kind, such as valtrex..

Now, you are also incorrect. You are referring to the hpv group of viruses, which almost all of us have been exposed to and almost all of us will have our immune system clear it of our body..
 
Now if it's herpes, 50-70% probably have it, but it's not actively shedding very often.. A canker sore does not get misdiagnosed. You also can't spread canker sores to others. They are also on the inside of your mouth.

You don't get misdiagnosed. A cold sore is herpes simplex..

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. I am so scared that I can give it to my children by kissing them and them eating with me...I feel like my whole life has changed. And even though the nurses, my doctor, and websites say that a lot of people have it I still feel like I am by myself. My self esteem has dropped and I feel like I have been used up. But now, My life is very happy.

Not all herpes are STDs. Everyone has it, it's just dormant, or a different kind. I have throat herpes, and i've never in my life have any kind of any sex with any gender.
