Can a monopolistic organisation be broken up like a company?

If a company has a monopoly in a certain market the united states has the authority to break up that company for fair competition,

But can a monopolistic private organisation be broken up the same way a private or public corporation could be.

What I mean by an organisation is a group of people that act and operate like a corporation but are not actually.

So its like a not for profit, but it has some kind of monopolistic power? I dont think so. Its not really any commerce or economic activity going on, so anti-trust or whatever economic laws may not apply. Just a guess, but i dont know exactly.
