Brenizer method in photography?

I am using Sony Alpha55v at the moment. I understand the trick of this method. My real question is actually related to my camera itself.

In this method, I know that I have to lock the exposure and white balance, and focus on the subject, but for my camera's AEL function, it only locks exposure and white balance, when I move the camera, the focus will change. Is it what usually happens with other cameras? How do I fix this problem? Do I use the manual focus option?

Doesn't matter what camera you use, if you want to use this technique you will need to use manual focusing, and preferably have shutter, aperture, and ISO all set manually too. The advantage you have is that using the EVF on the SLT-A55 will give you much better previews so that you can get the levels correct before you start.

*Guess I have to add that I would put this technique into the realm of graphic art as much as photography. That's not a bad thing as I am interested in both, though I have to say I don't actually find this style of photograph to be that pleasing. It just makes the central objective of the image stand out too much.

Shoot in manual mode, turn off the autofocus, and use any white balance setting but AWB, and everything will stay consistent between shots.
