Cylinders Vs Torque & Power?

uhmm im fairly new to the whole car stuff and im looking at possible first cars, but thats not the point now here (in australia) we measure engine power in kilowatts ans i see older cars with lower kilowatts compaired to modern cars, now say i had 2 cars with the same amount of kw but one is a 6sylinder and the other is a 4 which is better is speed and power wise? and at roughly where does the 4 cylinder become more power than a 6cylinder? and like im looking at holden commodores something under $6000 ute or sedan and i want the most powerful thing i can get on my p plates for that price so what should i keep my eye out for? thank you :)

The guy above has stated everything in terms of power but as far as possible cars Ford XR6 are the most powerful P plate legal car available as far as I know but, I strongly dislike both Holden and Ford. You will have to look at what you are going to use the vehicle for.... Work, Traveling to school, etc, etc. Commodores are cheap to buy parts for but are absolutely **** to work on no matter what anyone has to say. You might want the most powerful thing you can have being a P plater but insurance becomes high, a six cylinder is going to use more fuel and fuel economy will be bad. I prefer Japanese car brands Subaru, Nissan, Mazda and Mitsubishi. Buy yourself a cheap car for example a Mitsubishi Lancer for about 3 to 5 grand save the rest for insurance and rego. Best way is to buy cheap, learn and perform mechanical repairs on the car. Other wise keep your eye out for an non accident, clean car and have a trust worthy mechanical to check it over, doesn't matter if it has high kms as long as its been taken care of.

Regularly a 6 cylinder will have more than a four cylinder. However the quantity depends upon the displacement and stroke. Stroke can make a gigantic difference. Longer stroke equates to extra torque. All things being precisely equal (which they never are in real lifestyles) a 6 will have to have 50% more torque. But the firing interval could be distinctive for the engine. This would change the torque as good.

if you had two cars with same power output but different number of cylinders, usually the one with more cylinders has more speed and torque. But, a 4 cylinder will be more powerful if it had a turbo on it or some type of booster.

Now if you are looking for a sedan with lots of power for $6000, you have a variety of options from many makes and models. for example Infinity-Nissan (same thing), BMW, Mercedes etc.

Extra note: when you want to choose a car: check for its history ( if it's used), previous owner(s), original price( so they wont trick you), if they changed the original color (look under the bonnet/hood), any mechanical problems and/or weird mechanical noises, any hidden prices ( for extra options on the car), mileage ( sometimes these sort of cars have really bad mileage)
