I went to the gynecologist the first time and?

Had gotten my first pap smear, by the way I am 18. Now know that on the day I went my period was expected to come, it came later that night (after my exam). Apparently we had to do some extra testing and I have like a bacteria infection. The second thing that I'm questioning about is that the doctor also found something red on my cervix and she thinks it might be an STI or something. Now I'm thinking that it must be my period. I told the doctor and she said no. What do you all think?

Your cervix can change when your period is due, but the doctor would know the difference between a 'normal' cervix (at all points in a normal cycle) and something that looks out of the ordinary. STD tests are easy, better to be safe than sorry.
