Could my 22-month old niece have autism?

Hi all, I have a 22-month old niece who appears to be normal, except she has no spoken language as of yet. She can walk very well, and she does use body language and other non verbal cues appropriate for her age in trying to communicate her needs, but other than babbling she does not speak any words. She likes people and enjoys interacting with others. So other than her lack of speech she seems normal, but should we be concerned? Autism does run in our family, so that's another reason why were a little concerned about her. Any ideas, thoughts or opinions?

hi. certain, those are features of autism spectrum ailment. the inability of language, toe walking, lining each and every little thing up, and absence of interest in social interactions are all very good signals of autism. i might want to symbolize that you get him assessed for early intervention amenities once conceivable. those amenities are loose and are presented to little ones who qualify. Your husband appears like he's having some worry coming to words with this, notwithstanding the faster you get help on your son, the more advantageous in all likelihood a more advantageous useful result for him. you may want to tell your husband that early intervention amenities can not damage and may want to easily help. Even the language on my own (no words at 22 months) might want to in all likelihood make him eligible. The classic autism tale is one among a frequently coming up newborn that each and every one among surprising variations. Did he lose language or words that he had? if so, it really is yet another indicator. i'm sorry, yet recognize that with early intervention, many sensible factors can in all likelihood be made. sturdy success.

Lack of speech is not the only sign of autism. Ask her doctor for a speech evaluation.

I wouldn't worry Einstein couldn't speak till he was 5. My nephew Devon couldn't speak till he was 3 and he's 15 now and has 5 A* his younger sister Dakota was the same and she's just turn 7 but just keep an eye on her, she could be slightly deaf but just keep an eye on her.

Doesn't sound like it. From what you describe social interaction is not a problem for her, only using words is.

I would check for tongue tied and cleft palate. take her to a speech pathologist and have her tested.
