ANSWERERS: Ethics Question...please read & respond?

when we answer questions, how do you judge if you are helping someone

or "just doing their homework"

how do you judge?

what about the folks who don't have internet access,

but are really the brightest, but lose out on their homework because they didn't solve

the "extr credit" homework...

so they graduate with a GPA of 3.5 not 4.0

most of you can see where this is going.

anyone see the movie "Idiocracy"?

comments/suggestions?

Consider that if people don't have internet access, how are they on here asking questions?

There are excellent libraries in most towns to use for homework and research. If people are just assking questions for thier homework then I don't answer them because they are being lazy and expercting others to do the thier work.

    Loved the movie "idiocracy."

EDIT: I sometimes rip into them if it is something they could have easily researched themselves in google or by using a dictionary; or just giving it a little thought.

my area is math and finance, plus some English. In no particular order:

in short, it depends on the quality of the question, and sincerity.. Did they put in some effort? How tough is the question, really? [if they post a dozen math questions - that is just laziness; not asking for help.] Do you think they will learn from your work. [I often think they are b-s-ing me (trying to con me into doing the work for them) if they say they have the answers, but do not give them. = doing their homework.]

Many times I do not give complete answers, or gloss over steps, so that they have to work it out long-hand.

Rudeness "do it and show work" is a turnoff. I laugh when they just copy and paste the list of questions, and that includes the point value of each question.

I also hate it when they say "I know the answer is (this)" when they really do not know. Worse is when they ask for help, then tell you your answer is wrong (but cannot tell you how or why).

Source(s): This is just something to do, a hobby.

thats why you don't judge someone's intellect by their GPA and you dont have this problem
