It,s official now that we (India) are the oldest civilization of the world !!! Whats your opinion?

Our civilization is much older than 8000 years. Few years later some archaeological survey is going to prove that. Many excavations in India have changed the proposed timeline of Evolution.

Regarding those ignorant dumb@$$es who are badmouthing India are the people who belong to a race of criminals. Their ancestors were all criminals who migrated from Europe to North America, destroyed the North American civilization, and stole their land. Not only that, those criminals wiped out an entire race of people and then called themselves Americans while named the indigenous Americans as "Indians". LOL That's shameful.

They became rich only by stealing from other civilizations. But the blood of criminals is still in their veins. USA's population is one-fourth of India's and still USA tops the list of countries with highest number of crimes, while India is ranked 10. USA is the rape and homicide capital of the world.

Historians have often remarked, civilization is a word easier to describe than it is to define.A civilization is a group of people living in an area who have improved their way of life over time. The people who make up a civilization are members of a society. As a civilization develops over time, it becomes more advanced, and provides a better life for its people. There are many things we need, in order to have a civilization.Measurement of the strength of the civilization is based on quality of life: behavior, art, ritual practices, faith, language, food habits, intelligence and economy etc; each strong society has its strong identity that popularizes. When people learn and work together as a society, a civilization grows.

Up to about the year 1860, man's history had been conveniently divided into three distinct epochs: ancient, medieval and modern. After 1860, however, a new expression came into general use to describe the cultures of the distant past. Civilization can be understood through the field of archeology. Archaeological remains can illuminate how and where early cultures lived, stored food and produced tools. We can learn of their religious practices, political organization and what type of relationships may have existed between man and woman, husband and wife, parent and child. Human artifacts uncovered by archeologists also reveal the existence of kings, plagues, famine, good harvests, wars and class structure.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines civilization as "the action or process of civilizing or of being civilized; a developed or advanced state of human society." Such a definition is fraught with difficulties. For instance, how might we correctly identify a "developed or advanced state of human society"? Developed or advanced compared to what?

The essential difference between civilized and uncivilized people is that among the latter there is no systematic group effort by its members to create machines for the benefit of the group as a whole, machines which require several persons to operate and which may not be used for several months or even several years after construction is begun on them. It is this notion of long-range planning and concern for the creativity of future generations which distinguishes the civilized person from the barbarian, who typically never has any vision beyond tomorrow, or the savage, who lives entirely in the present. The longer into the future the planning is projected, the more civilized is the society.

Therefore, a civilization never comes into being or survives unless it is guided by a cooperative group of persons who have a vision of and concern for the generations yet unborn. The vision of the future is always tied to the ethical code.

We can proud of indian civilization in the past, of course, it is true. We, indians always living praising the past generations, leaders, Acharyas, Gurus, and Maharishis. In this line, we can also praise the past civilization which is absent now. Civilizations must grow, and that is called civilization. Are we really living in the civilized society now? From the Jawaharlal Nehru period, we are living on hope for a better future. Also we hope it will not go in the reverse gear.

Ah yes, again we unzip the pants and measure our civilizations. My civilization is older than yours by 1 mm.

I think there are older,ancient human civilizations we will never discover.Everything comes in cycles.It's quite possible an advanced human civilization existed and already burned out,like Atlantis or Lemuria.

How come you have the largest number of people living in abject poverty anywhere in the world? If you've been a civilisation for 8000 years, surely you should have solved the most desperate social issues by now.

@Brad: India had already sorted out its' problems before colonialism in India. Before the British Empire, India was the richest country in the world with 24% of the world's wealth (to give you an idea the USA currently has 21% of the world's wealth).

The West (specifically Britain) nicked all of India's wealth; by Independence India had less than 2% of the world's wealth. The last 65 years of independence have been mired with crappy governments, but even then certain states in India (like Gujarat) are doing very well.

Even the Kohinoor diamond(planted in Britain queen's throne) was also looted from our country, We have the best way of life, i know u people c everything in respect to dollar, but one thing i can assure u we have very good social life den u. we hv good social, parental, & family relationship then you people.

The Indus Valley civilization died out in the second millenium BCE and is not the same civilization that occupies the sub-continent today. The "we" in your question doesn't exist.
