Why do Americans support Israel so much ?

There are a strong fundamentalist Christian lobby groups at capitol hill who are important votes for the presidential candidates. They believe in fulfilling the prophecies in the New Testament which entails the existence of Israel so that they can be saved when Jesus returns... it is absolute batsh-t insanity but that is what they believe.

There are also strong pro-Israeli lobby groups like the Zionists who are further backed by the rapture evangelists

Perhaps they understand politics and realize that the USA SHOULD support the only democracy in the middle east.

Then again, its possible and probable that many support Israel so Jews will make Aliyah and apparently when all of us are in Israel, the xtian messiah will come (back or whatever).

Why would a Jew worship in a xtian church or a xtian worship in a Synagogue? That makes no sense. We don't REFUSE to worship there so much as it just makes no sense. Do baptists worship in a mormon temple or mormons worship in mosque? No.

We do not hate xtianity or despise the faith. We do not believe it. We despise the evangelicalism that spouts from the mouths of many xtians. Were it not for that, we could care less about any xtianity. When I was at a secular University for a while, I had some xtian friends. It was fine. What I DO despise are the xtians who tell me I do not understand Torah and they have to explain it to me. THAT I find annoying and offensive.

Still, the support of Israel is as much about supporting a democracy (and using Israeli intelligence services) as it is about religion.

first, there is no basis for your comment that Jews "dispise" Christianity. You are likely just projecting your own feelings about Judaism. Not agreeing with other faiths does not equal "despising" them.

as to your question:

many christians support israel because it is part of core Christian belief that Christian theology is derived from the Jewish Bible and that they are "grafted" into the Israelite nation. so they have an affinity based on faith.

many support israel because they marvel at the western society of high tech and achievement israel has built for itself in basically a barren desert - especially as compared to the non-western and often in their view "backward' societies in the surrounding arab nations. People feel an affinity in the cultures and the 'can do' American style attitude.

as for the USA govt - it recognizes that Israel has long been its sole real ally in a region that the USA deems vital to its interests because of the oil. israel has a superb fighting force and provides excellent intellegence to the USA on an ongoing basis.

and of course, American Jews work hard to support candidates that will continue that support and to educate the public at large on the issue. although a tiny voting block, they are willing to contribute disproportionately to campaigns and are effective and convincing in their presentation of the issues.

all of these reasons act in combination.

God has a wonderful plan for all people, which He is working out in seven biblical ages. The Plan of God consists of both separation and reconciliation for all people; separation because of sin and reconciliation because of the free gift of God’s Righteousness through Jesus Christ. The history of Israel started when God called one man, Abraham.
