Chris--If you look at the very good Open Source link that "They See Me" provided you'll see that not only was I wrong in the totals (they are close to a billion dollars each) but also that Romney has outspent Obama by about $100 million. Considering how many ads are on TV today alone, those numbers will probably rise.

If Rmoney is good at anything it is turning a profit for himself and his allies.
The money he has spent has gone into the pockets he wants it to get into. The money came from wealthy donors who will not miss it. If Gingrich can turn a campaign into a income source Romney can turn it into a fortune.
Ah.... the smell of how Republicans re-distribute wealth.
