Is finding a watch on a beach proof that a lot of people lose watches?

Update:

I only ask because a lot of people seem to be finding them, so there must be more than one, has the beech become a dumping ground for stolen watches?

    It may also prove in 1% of cases that they left it there on purpose so that the people of R&S may ask many questions regarding it.
