You don't do much research, do you? No City or State would take those prisoners and no City or State wanted to hold the trials. According to you, in order to keep that promise, the President should have freed all those Terrorists, so they could murder Americans, and then he could have closed Guantanamo Bay,

Are you unaware that the Republicans pledged to use their best efforts to ensure that President Obama would be a one-term President? That pledge was made on January 20, 2009, the day the President was sworn into office. And the Republicans than and now in the House and Senate have have followed that pledge to the best of their ability, to the detriment of the USA and their constituents (those who voted them into office and who they are supposed to represent to the best of their ability) Considering the President has worked with such obstruction, since day 1, I'd say he has done a da*n good job.

Just imagine the Current Obstructionist say NO Republican Congress who will not become the YES men in congress and Republican President Romney and VP Paul Romney with a totally free hand to run rough shod over the 98%. No Unions, Right to Work Law in every State that mean you get paid what is offered, No medical coverage, No school loans or aid, No food programs, No FEMA for disasters like Hurricane Sandy and just no government help except huge tax cuts for big business and the wealthy. Talk about a third world country where you have two classes of people Rich & Poor.

Congress rejected it. The Kool Aid crowd tries to blame the Republicans, but it was rejected by large majorities in both houses (90-6 in the Senate, 258-163 in the House). Obama was a Senator when he made that promise; you'd think he would have known that the Senate was overwhelmingly against it.

Basic reasons, as outlined in both Liberal leaning and Conservative Press releases.

    1) Obama's first concern, when entering office, was universal health care. He spent, much time on it, since it was a priority.

    2) Both Republican and many Democrats in Congress did not favor closing Gitmo. Basically, this due to fear of transporting prisoners State side due to potential security threats. All Media outlets at the time specified this as being the main concern regarding Gitmo. Also, some States did not want possible terrorists housed in their State and many rejected the idea of them being tried in domestic courts.

    2) Democrats felt that closing Gitmo may cause political suicide.

    3) the issue to close it was never strongly pushed by the POTUS and both sides were not sure who was in charge.

    4) Congress wasn't only to be blamed for inability to close Gitmo. The Press interviewed more than 30 current and former administration officials, Congress and their staff, and members of the George W. Bush administration, as well as, activists in order to confirm the facts stated above.

"Vulnerable senators weren't going out on a limb and risk being Willie Hortonized on Gitmo when the White House, with the most to lose, wasn't even twisting arms,” said a senior Democratic aide whose boss was one of 50 Democrats to vote in 2009 against funding to close Guantanamo. “They weren't breathing down our necks pushing the vote or demanding unified action.” and...

“The one thing we could never figure out is who was in charge of it,” said a senior Republican staffer on Capitol Hill, whose boss, a senator, was initially supportive of the goal of closing Guantanamo. “Everybody seemed to have a piece of it, but nobody was in charge of it.”

I provided the "Washington Post" as a source here. But, there are other Press releases that verifying the Post's facts. During that time, both CNN, MSNBC and Fox were stating similar information.

Because he compromised with the Republicans who strongly protested the idea of closing Guantanamo and relocating the prisoners.

Of course, the right-wing then proceeded to have a hissy-fit over getting what they wanted.

It is what politicians do, but yet he did a lot of other things for your country, just because he did not close it doesn't mean he is a bad leader, sometimes they promise things they will not do.

You know your going to get every excuse under the sun, told your retarded, stupid, racist, but no truth! Truth is if this was a republican he would have been hung already, liberal hypocrisy knows no bounds but when it is their own two things will happen, they eat him or defend him with every lie they have!

For the millionth time......because republicans blocked his proposal to bring them to Prisons on American soil......because that would mean they would have to give them RIGHTS, currently being denied to them, under Bush's great hamstring of the LAW.

Got anything else, besides this old saw?
