Why is the US so right wing compared to Europe?

So now the US election is over can somebody explain to me how nearly half the people of the US, who are effectively of European decent, can vote for somebody so right wing he makes Nick Griffin looks almost, and I do mean, almost, sensible*. Especially, when you consider that Obama's policies look quite right wing from a European prospective. Is it that we fought three massive Pan European wars in 150 Years or is it perhaps something to do with the kind of people who choose to leave their country of birth and start new lives. Or maybe it's just because we are a little less backward and a bit more grown up? Or maybe we are less influenced by religion. Thoughts people?

*For those who don't know - Nick is the leader of the British Nationalist Party, A far right minority party that has little or no voice in Government.

Interesting question. Our collective personality over here is a bizarre one to say the least. We must seem like a giant looney bin to some of you.

You mentioned "the kind of people who choose to leave their country..." I think that is really close to the reason. We began as guerilla warriors fighting for our own land, and taking it from others. Our right to bear arms was given to us by our government, with the intended purpose of overthrowing a tyrannical government. This has always been an extremely dangerous place where our right to defend ourselves is highly valued, and unfortunately carries over into a preemptive foreign policy at times. We are a nation of immigrants with widely different beliefs. Our freedom to express those differences and live with them is something we will kill and die for. Our foundation has been bred into us. At our worst we are spoiled, loud, arrogant, and selfish. At our best we are tough as ****, honest, loyal, innovative, adventurous, and a pretty good pal to have on your side.

How does this make us right wing?? I don't know, but I feel like that is getting there. We have a fighting spirit, and we are much to complicated to be delicate about anything. I am a liberal.

The causes the USA is more core-correct compared to Europe's center-left is our historical past. The devout predicament. The united states is probably the most religiouss nation within the industrialized world, homosexual marriage and abortion are primary problems for religious people they usually establish with the correct considering of these social disorders. Our country was once based by way of many individuals seeking devout freedom and this challenge remains principal to us in these days. The most important component is our differing belief on the position of the government- the eu govt/Church have a paternalistic legacy, the place the federal government has a much better position offering and taking care of the humans (education, wellness caree, housing, pension, lax work hours, vacation and so on). Americans consider the cause of presidency is to comfortable and shield the character rights of our residents, nothing extra. Again the intent for the variations is our historical past... The us used to be established after breaking far from a tyrannical govt and our country was centered on a structure that absolutely restrained the energy of the government. Americans are ingrained to not believe the government. We're additionally born hating taxes (proper wing), we broke far from Britain seeing that of the taxation problem and that mindset still exists in these days. We feel the federal government is far less effective than the exclusive sector and the government will have to now not beinterferingg in the lives of our individuals. With regards to business americans have perpetually believed in the private sector rather than the public sector, we feel the government will have to avoid regulating industry for the reason that we rely on the confidential sector for 85% of our jobs. Public workers are viewed as overpaid parasites who, being paid through the government, make a contribution straight to the general public debt. And there are certainly just right financial factors to expect the public sector to be much less effective than the private sector. The inducement offered by means of the revenue reason is absent; public groups are typically monopolies; public employees are voters as a consequence granted benefits for corrupt purpose. In Europe the Socialist financial approach is liked and practiced (left wing) where as americans are very skeptical, wary of the opposed influences Socialism would have an our economy and more importantly the tenets of Communism/Socialism wholly conflict with American values. Americans suppose that what anindividuall earns from his tough work belongs to him, what he earns is to not be taken from him through the government and then redistributed to others, even american citizens who are terrible will not be watching for these hand outs they're looking for the opportunity to thrive on their own. This is the very proposal of the American Dream.

A couple reasons. The U.S. citizens generally don't like taxes, it's one of the reasons why the colonies rebelled in the first place. In case you haven't noticed in the UK the taxation is outrageous by U.S. standards. The fuel tax is what? Around 70% of the total price of any given amount of petrol? And then there's the all-encompassing VAT, and there are some utterly bizarre taxes, like the bedroom tax, and the window tax (not sure if they have that one), and in another blatant money grab, there's the congestion fees in some cities. So you have to pay for the privilege of driving on the very roads that your taxes already paid for in the first pace, absolutely incredible. In the U.S. we aren’t taxed nearly as heavily and people like it that way. If I want to drive my supercharged V8 powered car through the streets of Washington D.C., I can do it as much as I like and not have to pay £25 a day to do it. On the same vein, the average citizen in the U.S. hasn’t been legislated into driving a diesel hatchback shitbox either. Even a person of average means here can afford to drive a car that would be considered extravagant in most places in Europe.

There are some "right wing" tenants that alot of people in the U.S. embrace; smaller central government (let the states decided what's best of them), self-reliance, being responsible for yourself, and enjoying the fruits of your labor. I fail to see how any of those things are necessarily bad, Perhaps you can enlighten me.

If you take a step back and look at how the economy of Europe as a whole is doing, it's very disconcerting to me that people would consider Obama's financial polices as sensible. We're 14 Trillion in debt, Obama's solution; Let's keep spend out way out of debt. Fundamentally that cannot work. Romney's borderline austerity measures are what this country needed, It's not what everyone necessarily wants, but it's what's needed at this point in time. Taxing the rich more is going to be counter-productive. The rich will simply make up their losses elsewhere, mainly through cutting jobs. Don't think for second that the 1% are just going to give up their money easily, they didn't become rich in the first place by standing idly by and just letting things happen.

They are all immigrants except native Americans, they should all go back to the country they came from.

I would suggest it is to do with a greater capitalist tradition, or perhaps more redneck states.
