'93 Civic what could be wrong?

Car runs good, few minor problems, less than 60.000 miles. It makes such a loud roaring sound while driving down the highway. The engine is quiet when stopped. Its more on the driver side, you can like hear the tires on the road, I would describe as a hummimg or roaring, very annoying. We had the tires balanced yesterday, no change. It sounds like a racecar from the inside. One thing the front lower I guess you would call it a mudsplash is missing after it was hanging down and we broke it off. We know it needs a new alternator, have to charge every evening. Would appreciate any opinions.

I agree with Fred it sure sounds like a wheel bearing is going and you should take care of it asap especially if you've noticed it's gotten a lot louder or louder.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way many shops will check the wheel bearings for free, be sure you have them show and explain the problem to you,Note shop around bec prices can vary a lot.

Wow! this is a fault that can never be tricked-Its the Wheel bearing of your vehicle, thats the wheel bearing of the right wheel(When standing infront of car) is either damaged or really dried out with no or less grease(Lubricant)..

Some technicians or mechanics call it "Hub Bearing" okay

so yeah, have your wheel bearing inspected..or you could do this yourself: jerk that wheel up with the transmission on "neutral" and hold the tyre at 3'oclock and 9'oclock then shake back and forth, feel the free play...there shouldnt be too much clearance. must be effectively stiff...Now hold it that way again and rotate high by hand as far as you can or turn and listen to its sounds, shouldn't be making such low volume roaring sounds..

if you detect any of these have the mechanic go straight to the wheel bearing!!! Thanks. wish you the best!!
