Honey I am a 25 yr. sober alcoholic. Alcoholism IS a disease. An addictive, cunning, progressive, killer disease. IF it is not stopped, it WILL keep getting worse & worse over time. I also was married to an alcoholic who could/would not stop & stay stopped. After hanging in 10 long yrs. hoping he too would get sober, I finally accepted the truth & ended our marriage. I attended AA & Alanon. AA saved my life, Alanon saved my sanity. Alcoholism IS an inherited disease. With ALL the alcoholics in your family, honey, don't take that chance of allowing it to get you too. PLEASE please STOP your drinking NOW before it gets a hold on you. You even can go to AA mtgs. along with Alanon or Alateen. I so STRONGLY suggest you do get yourself involved with one of these 3 programs for your own sake. I would never want anyone to go thru what I did with my alcoholism, ruining marriages, hurting my 3 children from it. I have an attitude of gratitude I was able to quit & stay stopped when I did. My kids are so glad to have their mom back again. Do not even get involved with pot. You don't need it, you don't want to add still another chance of addiction to your young life. It's NOT worth it as you've seen in your whole family & know too well all it can do. PLEASE I beg of you to get yourself involved in one of these programs, you will not regret it for a moment. Do whatever needs be to stay away from ALL drugs of all kinds. You have far too much you could inherit from your own family. Please STOP while you still can. I know, I've lived it, been there & hurt far too many loved ones. Love yourself enuf to stop while you still can, & DO GO to one of these 3 programs to learn of these horrible diseases...I SO wish you all the best, honey...:)

I would be incline to go the other way being as your dad was an addict (and died from an overdose). Doesn't that scare you? Both sides of you family has a tendancy to abuse, so why would you want that? I don't get it sometimes, I wish you the best!

Yes. My mom and dad both have bi polar and depression. They both battle alcohalism. I like to drink but I worry too that it could some day get out of hand like it did with them. Its not worth it, you already know that. You are a teen so you probably aren' thinking about having a family of your own someday. But you will probably want that. And the cycle can stop somwhere. you don't want to have kids and put them through what you've been put through.

unless you want to die too i guess. never been around drug ever in my live but i know it doesnt take much to change a person's life. in your position, i would search around the inter-webs for some location on counseling, or a reliable friend. it may be your father's death that made you feel like that, but talking to someone can always let some steam out. i hope for you the best.
