You should Google the Electoral College and see why our Founding Fathers set it up. With that said, I think with mass communication and the internet the way it is, we could probably be fine with the popular vote.

Bush didn't win Jack, he was SELECTED!
" W. Bush was not elected. The Supreme Court ordered a halt to the
lawful, fair, full count of votes. It came as a shock, because
Florida law requires such a count, the Bush people conducted
unauthorized hand counts in six counties, and there were no grounds
to stop the judges who were counting. Even the five Republican
justices admitted 135,000 votes were left uncounted in Florida, and
that was wrong.
The only reason Justice Scalia gave for halting the full, fair count
was that knowing Gore won would make people not accept Bush as the
President. Once the count was delayed, the majority ruled that the
135,000 votes should be counted, but cynically claimed that it must
be done in a few hours. This because they falsely claimed an
artificial deadline was more important than the basic foundation of
America itself -- that we count the votes and decide on the
leadership, not the other way around.
Anyone who is honest and who knows the law at all -- be they on the
left, right or center of the political spectrum -- agrees the
decision in Bush v. Gore lacked any grounds in law or precedent. It
was a partisan coup which Vincent Bugliosi rightly describes as
criminal to the point of treason. "

Do you really think our votes mean absolutely NOTHING, or just that they don't mean as much as they would if the election was decided by the popular vote? Because I can assure you that our votes definitely mean something - the electoral votes in each state are completely determined by the popular vote in that state. The problem is just that in terms of electoral votes, winning a state by a landslide is no different than winning a state by a very small margin, so the current system favors candidates who just barely win states. Ultimately I agree that the election should be decided by the popular vote, but you're overstating the problem by saying that our votes don't matter at all because of the electoral college.

I don't like the whole electoral vote thing either because its not fair how some states have more than others. And if you know your state is a democratic state and you are a republican, then there is not point in you voting. Yesterday we found out obama won before all the voted were in becauase he reached 270. I think the president should be decided on popular vote because that's when you know your vote will count.

Sure they count. Man or woman votes choose the electors who officially opt for the President. In the event you do not vote, there are not any electors. There are a few motives why this used to be put into place, however the key point to realise is that our government will not be a pure democracy; it's a republic. Just go vote on your candidate and let the method do its thing. Be happy that thousands of usa citizens have made the best sacrifice to get any say in any respect and to have the liberty to whinge about it.

In Australia you have to vote all the booths have security on them and all states have the same counting system . Voting is necessary because to be a true free country all the people need to say who leads there have been several elections that the last vote has made all the difference for example in the last election in Australia some of the votes were recounted because it was so close they needed to check

Apperently not :/ which is really dissapointing. Romney won the popular vote but Obama won the electoral vote. Personally, I think the electoral college is outdated and should be abolished. What happened to the people's voice in the election? Basically obama was not re-elected he was re-SELECTED by the electoral college.

YES.... ALL VOTE COUNT!!! ONE VOTE CAN MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE... IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER POPULAR OR ELECTORAL, BUT IT'S THE OVERALL NUMBER AT THE END

The "Electoral College" is a misnomer. You are prohibited from attending any college that would have you wise up to US richclass dictatorship operations.
