Hi your computer does not have an address as such what does have an address is the ethernet interface which is a hex code which is used to identify it from the other P.c's on your network this is known as the
MAC address which is made up of octets of hex decimals up to 12 four bits wide, a2c3, c4b1,d27c,f2e6,6de2,2341,2783,acde,b1c4,d361,f361,8ae5. that is an example of just one.
Mac addresses are dynamically linked to an Ip address in the router and now we are using six ip address regime.
so it may eventually mean even the fridge and the freezer will have a separate address in the home.
so the router gives a Mac address an ip address on a per occasion basis.
the occasion last as long as the connection but is released when the occasion finishes and goes back into a pool of Ip addresses.
Source(s): as a network engineer the allocation of Mac and Ip adressing is the first thing you learn about along with DNS and caching of decimal dot addressing. - Anonymous9 years ago
whatsmyip will not give you the IP address of your computer behind a modem or router. To find your IP address is pretty simple. Open a command prompt and then run the command ipconfig. It will give it to you.
if you run ipconfig /all it will tell you all the gory details.
