Help! What do I do?! Open minded people ONLY!!!?

Okay, so I apologize ahead of time because this is going to be a little lengthy.

So the situation starts out kinda dumb, but okay. So. My boyfriend's brother posted a status on Facebook that was incredible stupid, in my opinion.

It said "Is in a mission to get obama the heck out of the white house and prayer back in" or something like that.

I commented on it and said " Isn't church and state suppose to be SEPARATE? Meaning, it's cool if the president is Christian, just don't force your religion on your country.. Just saying."

And then he commented back with 2 large comments. Somewhere in one of those comments he said "Obama took prayer out of the white house and made a day for muslims!!"...

So I commented back telling him that I wasn't going to talk politics with him because I felt that he was closed minded about the subject,

then I asked him " Christianity isn't the only religion. Don't we have the right to practice our religion? Isn't that what America is known for? We all have the right to practice whatever religion we chose&express our beliefs. And NOBODY should be able to tell us we can't. What do you have against Muslims? What did they do to you?"

So then he commented back "muslims are trying to destroy america and are already on phase 4 they pray everyday fot thier fake god to crush america. and i didnt say everybody has to be one religion just saying prayer works and it needs to be back in the white house and schools for everybodys own sake weather they know or believe it or not." and then he added "ohh and who flew the planes through our town towers on 9 11? ohh yeah the muslims did that"

Okay, Muslims had nothing to do with that. That's my number one pet peeve; people who discriminate against a race and stereotype. Everybody knows it was the terrorist group Al Qaeda that flew the planes into 9/11, directed by Bin Laden, correct? Well BOTH were formed by America anyways for purposes over seas. Did you know Bin Laden was trained in Texas by the CIA?? You do now. ANYWAYS.

I replied back with "The terrorist group Al Qaeda. Not Muslims. You know who trained the terrorist group Al Qaeda?? America. So by technicality, AMERICA is to blame for 9/11. Get your **** straight BEFORE you judge somebody. Aren't you Christian people suppose to love thy neighbor? And doesn't it say somewhere in the bible to witness to people through your actions, not to force or something like that? For all you know your god could be fake, and Ala could be real. The Koran could be the real word, and the bible could be blasphemy. Why am I agnostic, borderline atheist? Because of stupid sh!t (sorta like you just said) Christians say and how forceful Christians are. You believe what I believe or you're going to burn in flames for eternity after you die. Now why would I want to be a part of that? I don't think little children should recite a prayer if they don't believe in it or don't understand it"

He replied back "dont even try ti defend muslims unless u kbow whats really going on. i know a guy who grew up and was raised muslim and started killing christians for fun at the age of 7 doing missions side by side with sadam but now is a christian and kbows absoutly evsrything about muslims and he tells thier plans abd storys world wide. ill let you barrow and watch the his interview then you can try to say what did they do to you."

He went and told his mommy&now my boyfriend is upset because, his exact words, I'm "not being Christian". And he totally backs up his brother&mom about Muslims. He told me he pretty much hates them& they should all die. I really love this guy, but I don't know if I could get over him being so racist! And he's blindly discriminating. It's like he doesn't even have his own opinion, he's just repeating what his mom and brother are saying! I'm trying to explain to him that "Muslim" is a race, just like "Native American", "African American", and "Indonesian" but he just doesn't want to understand. He's so closed minded&hating an entire race based off of false information, and refuses to listen to any other information. Should I break up with him? I don't know what to do. I really don't want to break up with him, but I don't want to be with someone that doesn't have their own opinions, is racist, and so closed minded. HELP!! I don't know what to do. :'(

P.s. If you actually read all of this, THANK YOU!! I appreciate every answer someone is willing to give me. :-)

I've read it all, and I advise you to read my reply. You might not agree with it all, you might be offended, but I'd appreciate if you gave the same attention as I gave to your question.

To start with, I do not know what you mean by "open minded", isn't excluding other ['close-minded'] opinions the opposite of being "open minded"?

To be fair, one can be so open-minded that one's brains will fall out. So I do not know if you are either the embodiment of open mindedness or said close mindedness. The definition between these two extremes is pretty blurry, and so is the passage from one to the other.

The sentence "Open minded people ONLY!!!" is a real contradiction in my view. Especially when you say "I appreciate every answer someone is willing to give me." at the end of your question!

You think that muslims are a race, but they are not a race. It is a group of practicing, religious people who emulate the life of the Prophet Muhammad. It is a creed, not a race. And to think otherwise would actually make you a racist, since muslims come in different races and ethnicities. THAT would be close-minded of you.

Then there is a real problem.

"Everybody knows it was the terrorist group Al Qaeda that flew the planes into 9/11, directed by Bin Laden, correct? Well BOTH were formed by America anyways for purposes over seas. Did you know Bin Laden was trained in Texas by the CIA?? You do now."

That is debatable, Al Qaeda has been funded by several different people. Bin Laden and the Saudi regime first and foremost. What you are referring to is the funding of the Afghan mujahideen groups by the Unites States of A. along with the CIA back when the Soviets were fighting a bitter guerrilla war. That was back in the 1980's. Not only that, American funding went exclusively to Afghan groups, and not Arab ones like Al Qaeda (which benefited from funds raised by Saudi mosques).

Of course, the Saudi regime was and is technically helped by America, so it leads you to this conclusion:

"America. So by technicality, AMERICA is to blame for 9/11."

You need to balance your facts. The priorities of 1988/1989 were not the priorities of 2001. America wanted to bring down the Soviet Empire back then, and it wanted to get the Red Army stuck in Afghanistan (just like the Soviets funded the Vietcong to counterbalance the US Army in Vietnam). This was Cold War policy. And of course, there were consequences.

Personally, I tend to think the Cold War did not die out, it is still very real. And to think America helped Al Qaeda destroy their own megalopolis would appear suicidal. Of course, you could argue that Kennedy's assassination was an inside job too, and go as far back as Pearl Harbour being a conspiracy. If you really want to delve into conspiracies that is...

In fact, the odds are that 9/11 was probably backed by the FSB (the successor to the KGB). As Al Qaeda's terror tactics match those promoted by the Russian/Soviet secret services since Andropov.

Then islam, I think your boyfriend's brother is just showing an instinctive reaction to muslim aggressiveness. And I do not use the word 'aggressiveness' lightly, I've lived near muslims my whole life, a very, very close relative of mine converted to islam (and then left islam out of disgust). I've seen how this dogma transforms people into brutal, overly passionate sociopaths.

It is taboo, but yes, I agree with your boyfriend's brother, islam is a threat.

You forget (or ignore) that islam has been an enemy which has taken centuries of patience and violence to overcome, all the great western thinkers (from Belloc, Chesterton, Churchill, to Michel Foucault) have spoken out against it.

The crusades were an example of how Christianity tried to conciliate its ideals of peace with the concept of holy war. It took centuries for Christians to make that move, but it was necessary.

To see islam gaining ground day after day is frightening, and therefore I ssympathizewith your boyfriend's brother's frustration.

America was founded on religious tolerance, but that tolerance was primarily between different christians (namely protestants, anglicans, puritans, mormons, etc...). America is based on Christianity, that is undeniable.

When a group attacks you, rejoices as you suffer, seeks to destroy you...there is no other way but to fight back. Islam is at war with the West and the rest of the world. The problem is that we are not at war with them.

The "Blame America" attitude won't save us.

I believe it depends on each the occasions and the individual involved whether or not one is open or closed minded. For example there can be some very closed minded folks, well i do know just a few, who're very tolerant (close to to the point of open mindedness, you would suppose), simply considering of who the other character is. That's one instance of the place an exception to the guideline applies. However for probably the most section you need both similar to hot and cold within the bodily realm of thermodynamics. For with out the interaction between sizzling and cold or opposites, existence would become stagnant and entropy. That would no longer be a real reflection on lifestyles. So subsequently I do well known the existence of each units of minds. And whilst be aware the exceptions and the natural effect of the interaction that occurs between them. Society as a entire does move ahead. That is what I think.

I totally understand how you feel, I hate those people that think the muslims and the terrorists are the same people. Your boyfriend's family and by extension, your boyfriend himself are extremely close minded people from what I can tell, its up to you if you want to stick with him, if you can ignore his shortcomings and still be happy in the relationship :)

that's what being in a relationship is all about, not letting the shortcomings get to you, but if they do and you cannot take it, then its time to move on. If you can ignore it and still be happy with him then I wish you the best of luck...

No,Church ans State is not found in the Constitution. It's simply says the Higher Form of government should remain neutral on the issue.

Islam is a radical religion, have you read the Qu'ran ? There are moderate Muslims and there are Fascistic Muslims. We are at war with the Radical Muslims.
