Is my engine in my car going?

It's making a loud rattling noise when it's stopped, and has a hard time getting up some hills. It drives fine on the highway though. I thought something was wrong with the muffler, so I had the mechanic check it out and he said that everything looked okay. Is my engine okay? It's also a 2000 Honda Civic.

Maybe it just needs a tune up. Plugs, fuel filter, It's probably not a serious motor problem. Hondas are good for 300,000K easy if they're reasonably maintained.

Without the mileage it's hard to say what kind of maintenance it might need. Might be an engine knock because you have accidentally used the wrong gas. Could be the tensioner for your timing belt is broken and your belt is making all the noise. Kind of common for Civics.

PLEASE get your IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE and throtte body CLEANED UP! It makes EVERYTHING work together by adding AIR from o2 sensor signals. Fuel is metered elsewhere. It si VITAL to air/fuel balance that the IAC remains SHOWROOM clean at all times. BAD oil choices will clog it up with acidic vapors. A clogged IAC will CAUSE converter rattling and other drive=ability issues. GOO DLUCK to you!
