What Format is my Umbutu 12.4?

I am trying to Download Avast, and I need to make a selection of one the three Packages

RPM - DEB - or TARGZ

and I have no Idea What is required

73 years old, and up this late!

    Welcome to Linux. I will let you on a little secret. For Linux you do not need a anti-virus protector. I have been using linux for 3 years and never needed one and never will. Plus any anti-virus protectors you download do not scan for linux viruses since there are none, all it scans for is viruses that affect windows machines.

    Ubuntu is a debian distro, so whenever you are installing a program that is not in the Ubuntu Software Center you want .deb files.

    Whenever you are installing a program first look in the Ubuntu Software center which is the shopping bag on the left on your toolbar.
