If you are trying to learn from history and so called biography of Mohammad to learn about Islam, then you are already on a path that is leading you to everything else except Islam ! :)

No denial that Islam is a set of rituals and also a set of belief. But the story does not end there.

The Quran states that Islam is the religion and path of Abraham.

Abraham was CHOSEN by God. Abraham was guided by God. Abraham was a very dedicated monotheist. And he was also tested very thoroughly. Abraham prayed that he and his example may be made as an example for the righteous and he may be taught the rituals of the religion by the only God.

Thus God taught him the religion and its rights and also gave him the scripture and guided him.

The descendents of Abraham were divided into two major lines i.e. descendents through his younger son Ishaq (Isaac) and descendants through Ismail (Ishmael) (the eldest son).

The children of Ishaq migrated to Egypt and were later enslaved and persecuted by the people there. Then Moses appeared and God sent him as a messenger to rescue them out of Egypt. They were brought out of Egypt through a series of miracles.

These descendants (Jews) were given a set of laws as enlightenment. These laws and rituals were documented as the scripture of Torah.

God sent to the Jews a number of messengers and prophets. There was hardly any time when they did not have one among them. But all the Jews were not sincere to God. The overwhelming majority of them committed a lot of corruption and abused a lot of blessings that God bestowed on them. They did so, despite the warnings they received in their scriptures and through the messengers that God sent to them. Thus God cursed the wicked among them and also punished them.

Subsequently God sent Jesus to them. And the Jews as was usual, went as far as plotting against him and killing him. Jesus was associated with mighty signs.

The rule of God is that when you witness a sign, your responsibility increases significantly. When you defy and plot against signs then you incur even greater punishment and curse. This is exactly what happened to the wicked Jews. They incurred a curse and punishment as a result of defying and plotting against Jesus.

Jesus though did not come to change the law of Torah, but he did explain those laws. His interpretation and the gospel that was given to him, constituted a slightly different set of laws and rights.

After this God sent the last scripture to Mohammad in the lineage of Ismail instead of the Jews. When one reads the Quran with fabricated interpretations then it sounds as if it consists of a different set of laws and rituals.

Yes, the laws are a bit different than the Torah. In fact, the laws are RELAXED. God had inflicted a substantial number of restriction and hardships in the Torah on the Jews. The Quran confirms the Torah and the Gospels in the sense that it states that YES indeed they were from God. The same God who is the Lord of the Universe. And they are indeed an elightenment and guidance for their followers. They are not doing anything wrong by following it.

However, it also tells that God had inflicted these hardships on them, deliberately, as God knew their behavior before hand. And now God has sent the final scripture not only to the Muslims, but also to them and to the world.

When you take out the traditionally implanted interpretations of the Quran, you find that it takes you back to the same religion as was practiced by Abraham and quite close to the Jews. For example it tells us to pray 3 times a day and face Jerusalem while praying (unlike the common belief of the mainstream Muslims that the Qibla is Mecca). It also tells that the fasting is 10 days. There are lot of similarities than one can comprehend. At the same time, it removes a lot of strong restrictions and hardships that were imposed in the Torah, by superseding it.
