My friend, with the exception of the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens and other low lined areas along the Atlantic Coast, New York City is pretty much up and running.

The lights are back on in Manhattan and other parts of the city, and the city's public transit system is up and running with near normal service.

However, it should noted that both Liberty Island and Ellis Island are closed indefinitely due to damage. The Statue of Liberty, which lost electrical power during the storm, is fine and its exterior is being lit at night by temporary lighting.

In addition, the New York Aquarium on Coney Island is closed until the Spring of 2013, again due to storm damage. However, the New York Wildlife Society, which operates the facility, says the sea creatures within the Aquarium are in good care.

The National 9/11 Memorial in Lower Manhattan, which was closed for a few days due to flooding, has since been reopened.

It should also be noted that some stores in the South Street Seaport suffered flood damage from Sandy, however, they are open for business.

Overall, feel free to travel to New York City, because the Big Apple is open for business.

    Good luck

Yes, most of the touristic attractions are up. Manhattan overall wasn't hit too badly by the storm, and Lower Manhattan (which was flooded and lost power) is alright now. You'll still have all the parades, Broadway shows, museums, etc.

I hope this information was very helpful.

Yes, for crying out loud! SANDY HAS NOT CANCELLED ANYTHING FOR THANKSGIVING! Did you not notice that your question has been asked ad nauseum? Scroll down a few questions or try the search button. The only major attraction that is closed is the Statue of Liberty which has been closed for renovations for the last year anyway!

If you have the opportunity the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is a must see for those that never have. Here is the parade route. Bring a comfortable chair, sleeping bag, warm clothes, the kids and grand-kids, camp the night, make many lifelong friends and be prepared for young and old alike to be in complete awe for quite some time.

Yeah the city is fine, only places by the ocean have experienced real damage
