Dogs and cold/cooler weather...?

As it gets cooler to cold here in Texas 40's - 60's, I wonder about leaving my two dogs outside all day while I am away at work. They both have short hair, so it's not like they have a heavy coat to keep them warm. Should I be keeping them inside like I have been doing? Or is there something I can try to make sure they have access to warmth while outside in the chilly weather? They like being outside, but I'm just worried about them getting cold. Thanks

They're fine outside during the day, I agree you should get them a dog house (or build one, it's not hard) filled with straw, just to keep them out of the wind. I would bring them in during the colder nights. I also live in Texas (near Waco) and have neighbors that leave their dogs outside all the time. My dogs are both inside dogs and kennel trained, but theirs seem happier outside, whereas mine are happier inside If you have a garage with access to the yard, you can build an enclosure in the garage with a dog door leading to the yard so they're free to run around the yard, but have a warm place out of the cold and wind to stay if they need it, that's the setup my sister had for her Boxers in Iowa and it worked well

Build or buy a dog house, and buy yourself some bails of straw to stuff the dog house with. (NOT hay, STRAW.) I also do not suggest you buy an igloo or other type of house, these are not very suitable for holding straw or heat. If you plan on building the dog houses, Make sure you cut the opening only large enough for the dog to get in and out, as well as having at LEAST a 5" lip at the bottom of the door to keep the straw from easily falling out. Also, if the dogs arent big into chewing, you can buy yourself a flap for the door opening to keep heat in and drafts out. (you can also acquire mud flaps and cut them into strips for the door aswell) Also keep the dog house up off the ground. Good luck.

Get them a doghouse big enough for both of them, and put it up on blocks in a sunny spot.

If you give them a half bale of clean hay in there, you'd be surprised how warm they can stay.

I have a dog that goes out all day in the Northeast, even in the winter - she's a smallish Aussie/Beagle cross, and she loves it out there, unless it's below 25 degrees!

Keep in mind, the dog house will need to be moved to the shade in the summer - but they may also use it then. Get rid of the hay, and replace it with a foam mat. My dog even has an old kid's sandbox, whichI hose down for her to lie in during warm wweather.

the only cats I ever experienced, have been the two cougars used on the Mercury Cougar labeled commercials. definite this is optimal. My brother-in-regulation became the owner, i became approximately sixteen whilst i began out helping their customary coach and after a pair of three hundred and sixty 5 days, he had me in the cage on my own with the little darlings. i might go up after college and weekends to the ranch and prepare the horses and the two kitties. I did that for some years, till at some point they mauled their customary coach of two many years and had to be positioned down. And the recommendations weren't all that diverse in some factors, different than, in case of a confrontation with a cougar, you do stare the cat in the attention and intimidating it with controlled loud noise alongside with attack with the help of rocks and sticks generally drives the cat away. For dogs, you're advised do not make eye touch, to be nevertheless or "like a tree". properly that technique would not paintings with cougars. The cougar might quickly attitude and furnish a deadly neck chew. *;* As for the climate, honest to middling! lol further: i think of it became obvious what they have been experienced to do from the labeled commercials, stretch out their paw at you and growl on cue!

Get them a dog house and will it with straw.

That should do until colder weather comes, then bring them in.
