I don't know. Alot of his success came off of a younger Steve Nash running the floor at all times, and having great athletes around him to get the to them for easy buckets. Mike isn't a great defensive coach and I think Sloan is the best coach other than Phil who is available right now. I actually think Sloan is every bit as good a coach as Phil as well...Phil has been much luckier in terms of talent he has had throughout his career. Sloan had two great player, two just okay role players and a bunch of no talents in the 90's with the Jazz. He however consistently gets in done even though his teams were always the underdogs.
It might work...D'antoni doesn't have any finals appearances where as Phil and Sloan do.

as a die hard laker fan i am somewhat disappointed but at the same time it was the right decision to hire Mike D'antoni he can possibly turn things around but not right away it's still going to take some time just to get the team rolling and gone a great winning streak but i say after the all-star break that's when they will become a very dangerous team, but right now they still need to get the chemistry on track and learn how to play together.

for now, iam anxious but i feel excited. I dont know how the lakers will work with their new coach but i expect something good although there are many questions. Like, is D'antoni the right coach? Would kobe mesh with d'antoni system? However i am optimistic that there are many good things that will happen.
for now, our choice is to believe.

I would have preferred Sloan, but he is a huge upgrade from Brown and I am very happy they did not hire Dunleavy.
Phil would have been great as well, but I think Mike's familiarity with Nash and his exposure to Kobe on the Olympics will put him ahead of the curve. I am feeling a heck of a lot better about the Lakers than I was a week ago. Heck, I would have been OK with Bernie staying around for the season as long as Brown was shown the door.

from what I read, Phil wanted too much.
he wanted more power and not committing to every
game on the road.
Lakers still have to pay off M. Brown. about $4mil/year.
Phil wanted $10-12Mil, Mike D agree to $12mil / 3 years.
and on top of that. Princeton offense didn't work. so the managements
wanted something more uptempo and exciting while still able to win
games.
in this situation, Lakers is a Win/Win situation. but Phil already
prove himself. and Mike D haven't shown that he can with his teaching.
I am more worried about the Defensive end.
Lakers biggest problem that I seen (this year) is
a) Turn Over
b) Transition defense.
and Mike D's philosophy won't help either of them.

Dis appointed...wasn't he fired from the as a coach? Phil Jackson was never fired..sooooo why the hell do top office keep getting previously fired coaches.
I wanted to see Phil Jackson back..
I think the Top Office doesn't care about what the laker fans thinks. honestly. They should've let laker fans vote!
