Why do people who own small dogs train their dogs to pee inside?

This would not be acceptable behavior from your Labrador, or your child, so why is it okay for the small dogs to pee on your floor (on a pad).

Why do you even start this behavior?

I'm really curious. Is it because you're too lazy to take your dog outside everyday?

Please don't use the "it's cold outside" excuse. They make dog coats and boots for that.

IMO the number #1 reason is they are too lazy to take the puppy outside every 2-3 hours and then get upset when the puppy is peeing all over the house.

Pads are the worse invention ever (well one of the worse).....dogs of all kinds/sizes were taken outside to pee/poop 20 yrs ago no matter where you lived.

BTW since I DO own both cats and dogs, the litter box is kept clean! Dogs are not cats and should not be treated as such.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aMMmP

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

i have wondered that myself ... i think it is pure and utter laziness with a splash of ignorance thrown in ... i know there are times i have to drag myself to take the dog out and lazy people don't want to do that ... and too cold outside i also think is an excuse ... my dog was just four pounds and tolerated -40 degree celcius weather - with a jacket and no boots ... i dog sit and i just had a person call me with a havanese and she wanted me to watch her dog for a week in my home and it does not go outside EVER ... it's feet have never touched the ground outdoors since they got it as a puppy ... and a havanese is not a tiny dog and i live in the mildest climate in canada, rarely even snow in the winter ... i asked why, and she told me they did not want the dog tracking dirt in ... she would not even agree to meet on the sidewalk in front of my home with my dog (i always let dogs meet on neutral territory) ... i told her i could not look after her dog and had a hard time telling them they should have got a flipping cat ...

I dont care how tiny my dog is, it's going outside to do it's business no matter what!.

My JRT pup is in housebreak training and she is strongly going outside and outside only. I personally find it lazy if an owner can not bother training their dog to go outside.

All my dogs that I have grown up with have been taught to go outside. I dont want my dogs to think they can just squat and relieve themselves inside the home. I give no excuses [neither do my parents] even when it's pouring down with rain both my adult male and pup will gladly go out onto the grass to do their business.

if they need to use bathroom they can do it without making a mess. i have a plastic box with a training pad in it if he needs to go before time for outside he has a place to go i can easily clean up. and yes when a chihuahua goes outside and it is freezing and lower a coat and those worthless boots do not provide enough protection. strange you did not mention you have a problem with cats using litter box and the strong smell they leave in the house.

In my experience dealing with owners of small breed dogs, they aren't really "dog" people, so they don't put the dedication into owning and training the dog. They will let the dog outside when it's a nice sunny day, but when it's cold, or rainy, or dark, or they are too tired or busy, they would rather just let the dog go in the house. They also don't find it necessary to train the dog to sit, stay, or respect humans. Typically these dogs run the entire house and make our jobs as vet tech and doctors much more difficult.

I think it is because they are too lazy.

People with tiny dogs are also more likely to not treat their dog like a dog and more like a human baby. They think the dog shouldn't have to hold its bladder and they don't bother to train it properly.

you got it, thats why they get small dogs in the first place, because their need for exercise is lower, unfortunately they assume that means they need no exercise, and the animal ends up becoming obese.

Like Mamabas said... too lazy to get up and take the dog outside.

I don't care how small the dog is... NO dog is going to **** and sh*t in my house.. not even on a pad. That is just disgusting.

I suspect it's because people are basically lazy and because a small dog usually only produces a comparatively small amount, think they can get away with it.

And as for coats - even the smallest puppy won't die if they are taken outside from day one, to empty, and then back in again!! Within reason - blizzard conditions apart LOL
