if i get a piercing with a needle will i still get a keloid ?
I got my cartilage pierced last november at a jewelry store and they did it with a gun ( I know bad idea) now I have a small keloid on my ear and I hate it. I was toying around with the idea of getting my tragus or belly button pierced for my birthday will I still get a keloid or did i only get one on my ear because I got it pierced with a gun ?
p.s. I went to the dermatologist and everything it wasn't infected or anything

keloids have to do w/ how you heal not w/ what type of device was use to pierce you. if you got a keloid the last time you were pierced then there's a good chance you'll get another one the next time you are pierced (it doesn't mean you will, it just means that your chances are good that it will happen again.)
the reason they don't want you to get pierced w/ a gun is because the gun can't be cleaned & sterilized properly & blood borne diseases are a much bigger concern than they were back in the "dark ages" of the mid 70's to early 80's when it was much more common to get pierced w/ a gun. also the guns are really only designed to work well w/ ear lobes not the various & sundry other types of piercings that people want to get.
as for how to avoid a keloid....you can't that's just the way your body heals. however you can have them removed by a doctor or if they are on your face by a plastic surgeon. in either case it's an in office procedure & depending on the skill of the doctor a 20 min or less procedure under local anesthetic.
Source(s): never had any keloids caused by piercings w/ a gun or a needle but was in an automobile accident where my face was cut. the wound was cleaned & closed w/ liquid stitches so there would be no scar but I got a couple of keloids that grew to be the size of a pencil eraser on my face anyway. a plastic surgeon removed them & you can't even tell they were there (I know where they were & I can't even see the scars) - 9 years ago
Usually the bumps from Piercings are hydrotrophic scarring which can go away. Put some tea tree oil on it for 2 weeks 2 times a day. May help. As for your question, if you don't touch or irritate it while it heals you probably will nit get one. I had a bump on my nose bevaus I kept touching my piercing. Tea tree oil cleared that up

U have less of a chance of getting a keloid if you get your piercing done with a needle. But you still can get one. a keloid is caused by playing around or moving the piercing to much
