why are people saying AL MVP shouldn't be Cabrera?

He won the triple crown. How is that not deserving? Also it doesn't seem like he did that bad in the post season to bring him down

Here's my opinion: Trout is a more complete player. I do believe Cabrera is a better hitter than Trout. But hitting isn't what makes a player. Trout and Cabrera had VERY similar stats in terms of hitting, but I would give Cabrera the slight edge.

However, when it comes to the rest of the game, Trout wins and he wins BIG. Let's take a single by either player. With Cabrera, it's gonna take forever to get him home. But with Trout, he could potentially steal second base and get knocked in with a hit or could even score from first. Once Cabrera is on the basepaths, he hurts the team more. And in the field, Trout is much more superior. Sure, they play totally different positions, but ask Tigers fans how many games they lost due to poor fielding this year. Trout covers so much ground in center and Cabrera is a below-average third-baseman. I am not using advanced sabermetrics here......I am using my eyes and brain to determine this.

Here's why I don't like the Triple Crown argument: it overvalues Cabrera. For average, they finished with such a small margin that it should be irrelevant. With home runs, they are certainly great, but baseball is not just defined by home runs. Plus, Cabrera's and Trout's OPS weren't too far off. As with RBI, it's unfair to judge because Trout was a lead-off hitter......and he still got a bunch of RBI. But as a lead-off guy, it's unfair to judge Trout on RBI solely.

And any argument saying Cabrera led his team to the playoffs is poor as well. The Tigers had a worse record than the Angels. The Angels had the best record in the MLB since calling Trout up. The Angels played in arguably the toughest division in baseball, which the Tigers went 13-20 against. If anything, Trout was more valuable to the Angels than Cabrera was to the Tigers.

DISCLAIMER: I did not use WAR at all. I used my ******* eyes and common sense.

If there was no WAR stat..this conversation would not even be happening...Until it is accepted universally as a stat by the baseball community,MVP will be voted on using the old stats .

Trout will just have to be satisfied with his ROY award...I am happy that Cabby won...but too bad they couldnt have been co-winners...first in history...BOTH! had remarkable seasons...

The reason people are debating this is because of the all around stats. Yes Cabrera did win the triple crown and it is very impressive since that hasnt been done since the 60s but all around Trout had better numbers as a whole. he had 50 sb and his glove was better than Cabreras. If you factor that in than all around Trout had a better shot. Offensively Cabrera was better but MVP is for most valuable player not offensively only.

Trout is the better overall player and, more importantly when it comes to a Most Valuable Player award, he makes his team better with his presence. The Angels went 17 games over .500 once Trout was promoted while Detroit underachieved all season before getting hot late to finish 14 games over. 500.

Had the Angels played in the AL Central, they would have placed 1st ahead of Detroit and their fat-@ssed, drunken 3rd baseman.

Detroit made the playoffs only because they play in the weakest division in MLB and Cabrera only won the MVP because he was able to feast on the two worst pitching staff in the AL and because the crackhead in Texas decided to take most of September off, virtually handing him the home run title and the Triple Crown.

Source(s): The voters whiffed looking at Cabrera's inflated stats.

    Because they all like fish.

Cabrera here is why ? Triple Crown 45 years and experts doubting it could be done. Complaint I love Trout more complete player WTF . Triple Crown was what experts used to say a complete player . Guess need new crown SB ,Run scored and almost golden glove. Has anyone mention Trout failure to get gold glove when the rip Miggy as being a below average fielder who went to 3 RD for Fielder lol

High leverage situations friends if you want to shove your 10.7 WAR BTW your telling me 10.7 Trout = Mays 10.7 of 1964 or Williams 10.7 of 1946.. Attn .312 high leverage 77 AB 24 h 4 HR 33 RBI August and September 58 G 12 HR 28 RBI .287 team 32-26 .551. That no 10.7 WAR is it ? Here is Miggy line August Sept .344 57 G 212 SB 73 H 19 HR 54 RBI . High leverage .343 105 AB 36 H 5 HR 44 RBI. 34-24 in August and September. How exactly does Trout warrant 10.7 when Miggy only 6.9 .

The White Sox dude got it. Give him the best answer already.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Both players were deserving and both cases are legit. I'm an Angels fan and I don't mind that Cabrera won it.

Because Miggy doesn't play for the team they support.

why are people in love with trout so much is a better question, ichiro had a way better rookie season

The argument was that Trout had better numbers in stats that were more important. But imo if you win the triple crown then you have to automatically win MVP.
