The three-nation trip to East Asia was more than simply historic, if you had bothered to read the whitehouse.gov release. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had been to Myanmar (formerly Burma) earlier in the year after the house-arrest of a long-time advocate for democracy Aung San Suu Kyi was ended in Myanmar at the urging of President Obama, to establish a diplomatic link to the region. One goal for President Obama was to open more world-wide markets for American-made goods---a way of creating even more jobs in the U.S. Another goal was to be the first U.S. President in history to visit Myanmar, Thailand, and Cambodia, the latter being the site of the East Asian SUMMIT that President Obama was able to attend on behalf of the U.S. On a more subtle level, one way of stemming China's rising interest in and expansion toward dominance in the region is for the U.S. to have a stronger presence there, which is also why President Obama has set up an agreement for some U.S. Marines to train in Australia, by the way.
Hillary was simply tired, very very tired. And she then went to the Middle East--to Israel and Egypt--to broker a temporary truce at President Obama's request, speaking first to bully-boy Benjamin Netanyahu whose tyrannical Gaza blockade on land promised to the Palestineans has wrought the furies of Hamas and the Palestineans, and then to the new Egyptian leader Morsi, who has agreed to take a leadership role in and responsibility for a peace agreement. Best Secretary of State this nation has ever had! I hope she runs for President in 2016.

Yes.
Part of a President's job is to go on diplomatic missions around the world.
You must be another person who think Obama is the first President to do such a thing, like the Cons who think Obama is the first to speak with a teleprompter or fly in Air Force One on taxpayer money.

Obama should have learned from Bush that it is better to spend a trillion dollars and lose tens of thousands human lives to build a democracy than to simply visit a country that is moving in the right direction.

Of course it is. A better diplomatic relationship means more cooperation in international affairs in the region and expanding export markets for American manufacturers. That's what these trips are all about.

A better relationship with foreign countries is always better. I don't mean to be "that guy", but at least people aren't throwing shoes at him.
