There are some posibilities for the rabies virus to survive outisde the host but definitely not for a long time.It cannot survive outside the host for a long time.
"The rabies virus is quite labile.
Depending on the temperature and humidity (and surfice) it does not last long outside the host.
It can be as short as a few hours." ---- This is the answer from a licensed veterinarian !!
