Found a receipt in my boyfriend's pocket?

So, I've been dating my boyfriend for a few months now and he's constantly asked me about marriage. Well, I found a receipt in his pocket from Robin's Bros. (The engagement ring store) for a $4500 ring.

I love him very much and I will graciously except the ring but I'm not ready to walk down the isle at this very moment. How do I tell him I want to wait a while longer?

Update:

I could be presumptuous; however, he constantly mentions marrying me and there are always a lot of "when we get married" conversations. He's a sweetheart and entered my life at the right time, I'm just not ready for an actual marriage at this moment.

If you turn him down then the relationship is over. You can plan the wedding 1 or 2 years out in the future. As long as you set a date it is a real engagement and no one will mind the wait. Decide now if you want him forever or want to risk losing him forever. You can't play games with someone's heart. If he proposes you have to say yes or you will lose him forever! Put the receipt back and don't say anything about it.

You can bring up the topic of marriage and just say that an old friend of yours got engaged really quick and that you feel a couple should know each other a whole year or more before getting engaged. You can say something like that to help postpone his asking you. But if he asks you are now put on the spot and if you say no it will crush him.

If you two are that close, you should be comfortable having these conversations. What have you told him previously when he asked? You just have to be honest and tell him that you are not ready. Give him a time frame if you can.

An engagement is time to get to know each other better.

If you want, just have a long engagement.

If you're not ready to marry, do not accept the ring. Accepting the gift is accepting what it is for.
