Dog food with no corn?

My dogs are itchy. I have been to the Vet who gave steroid shots two months in a row and the dogs got no relief. I have used hydrocordisone spray - no help. I have checked for fleas and put Frontline on my dogs - no help. I have added fish oil to their diet. No change. I have bathed them in oatmeal dog shampoo - no help. I now believe that they may be allergic to corn. I need to know what dog foods contain no corn. Any help will be appreciated.

While corn is the most common dog food allergy, I suggest a non-grain dog food (because dogs are carnivores and do not digest ANY grains well) & there are many options.

Read up on the foods offered by these companies & look on the websites to see if the food is sold in your area. Some stores that carry other VERSIONS of a companies' foods will order non-grain for you, if they don't normally carry it. My personal current favorite is Natural Balance non-grain (by Dick Van Patton). They have 3 or 4 sweet potato & one main meat source, option such as Bison, Venison, fish or chicken.

    Some other options:

Acana & Orijen (made by same company)

    Annamaet Grain Free Petfood

    Artemis (Maximal grain-free)

    Blue Buffalo (Wilderness)

    Bravo (pre-made raw)

    Canidae (1 - Pure Elements)

    Core by Wellness

    Darwin's (Raw pre-made)

    Evanger's dog food

    The Honest Kitchen (pre-made raw)

Innova; Natura Pet Products (several non grain brands)

Merrick Pet food (some canned & grain feee kibble)

    Nature's Variety (Instinct)

    NOW! Grain Free Pet Food

    Taste of the Wild (grain-free)

    Wysong

Your OTHER alternative, is to have your dog tested, for food allergies. If your vet is not familiar with the Liquid Gold blood test, print out info & consider asking him to run it, IF you donot have better luck on your first foray or two, into non-grain based dog food. Please eliminate ALL treats, until you have a better handle on what the dog is allergic to. Some dogs have an allergy to cooked proteins, regarless of type, and such dogs may do better (95% do) on a raw diet, but try the non-grain foods first, as that is easier for you.

Make sure you read the labels, my dogs are on Wilderness from Blue Buffalo and Merrick both are Grain Free. Also read the labels on the treats that you give because those will have corn/grains in them as well. Blue Buffalo makes a good line of Grain Free treats so do Nutro and Nature's Recipe. Also try adding extra water to their diet, it may help with the itchy skin.

Top Brand foods are not sold in grocerie stores or department stores onl feed stores or pet stores. They use corn because its a filler (and bloats) and they dont eat as much, so it makes it look like they dont go through so much. I never use any dog foods with corn ...ever.... they say balanced nutrition! lol yeah if your a human! Profit basically and make it seem like its good for your dogs, I mean hell, if its good for humans (veggies, meats etc....) why not dogs right? NOT! Any good owner knows not to by dog foods with corn! It causes sever bloat and they cant digest it, and it can sometimes be fatal in certain breeds!

Go to any store that sells dog food and read labels. Very few good foods h ave corn in them anymore. Did your vet do a full thyroid panel on your dog? The common allergens in dog food are corn, wheat, soy, by-products and chicken. Most of the top brands are free of these ingredients, but there is no reason you can't simply check the package labels.

Read the labels. There are hundreds of brands and varieties that use non-corn grains or do not use grain at all. Your cheapest option will probably be a lamb-and-rice formula, but there are plenty of grain-free options in any pet store. The associate in the store will be able to help you, and the ingredients are listed on the bag.

Okay, I have a large amount of knowledge, so take my word for it that I am credible in pet nutrition.

You are correct your dog likely has an allergy. Allergies in dogs are often shown by itching. Most vets are not educated on pet nutrition or are paid to sell a certain food, so likely are zero help. I have a couple suggestion that should be fool proof! Here they are:

I suggest this food as it is grain free (common allergy), and uses a different protein source (eliminates another allergy source), and can be found at most pet stores: http://bluebuffalo.com/dog-food/wilderness-salmon In addition, all BLUE healthy dog foods contain NO chicken or poultry by-product meals, artificial preservatives, corn, wheat or soy.

I suggest this dog food again because it is completely grain free (corn as well) and uses a different protein source. This is a Canadian brand but can be bought in the USA. All ingredients are high quality and most are human grade. http://orijen.ca/products/six_fish_dog

This dog food makes a grain free Salmon and Potato recipe made with limited ingredients to help with food allergies in dogs. http://www.wellnesspetfood.com/product-details.asp... It's lower in protein, so it wouldn't be my first choice.

If you do decide to go with Wellness they make another food that is grain free and uses Salmon as it protein source that has a higher protein %. http://www.wellnesspetfood.com/product-details.asp...

Anything with Salmon as it's protein source will be high in omegas naturally. Pick one. I feed my dogs Orijen, it's pricey but it's the best of the best.

Lots of them, just none of the cheap grocery store brands. Orijen, Acana, Wellness, Innova, Solid Gold - to name just a few. A lot of dogs can't tolerate grains, not just corn. All these companies make grain-free foods.

just go to the pet food store and pick out a grain-free brand ... grain-free is the new thing so there are lots of commercial foods to choose from ... and i would definitely pick grain-free over just no corn ...

Try this food it is a hypoallergenic meaning that it contains only essential minerals and so on. http://www.royalcanin.com.au/products/products/vet...

My dog had the same sort of thing except his ears would fill with brown gunk that caused a lot of pain
