Is it possible to live in London on £1,500 per month?
I will be travelling abroad to London next semester. Having never done so, I'm incredibly worried about the costs as I'm on a very fixed budget. Excluding housing (which is already paid for), is it possible to live in downtown London on £1,500 per month for groceries and entertainment alone?
Also, is travel out of the question?

Yes that is a very comfortable amount. When you arrive get what is called an Oyster card for travel on underground and overground trains and buses. The Transport for London (tfl) website explains it.
And enough for travel outside London and beyond too.
Downtown London in the UK would be called Central London or sometimes people say "in town"

Housing is the biggest expense in London. You will have plenty to spend on food and entertainment.
We don't call anywhere in London "Downtown".

Absolutely. Your monthly Oyster for Zone 1-2 will be £112/month. Groceries depend what you eat but I can easily get by on £20-30/week on groceries as I rarely buy meat.

Uh, yeah. Definitely. I'm a student living in London and I manage to get by on £300 a month!

£1500 a month after housing is a lot. £350 a week is very good, plan your travel though - get a pass for the bus or tube (trael will be the next most expensive thing.

Yeah as long as housings paid for you'll have enough to live decent accomodation for food and some entertainment

Oh yes that's plenty of money. The main expense is accommodation, as that is taken care of, £1,500 is more than enough for food, travel, and fun.
