Afghanistan isn't a threat anymore. We toppled the Taliban, got Bin Laden, and now, the Taliban and Al Qaeda can't do much other than some bombings. Harmid Karzai, Afghanistan's current president, is pro-western. Afghanistan under his rule is an ally that we're trying to stabilize.

North Korea is a whole different story. The regime is sitting on around half a dozen nuclear weapons and is hoping to build more and figure out how to deliver them on ballistic missiles. We have approximately 29,000 troops in South Korea stationed near the border and we've got the Marines in Japan. South Korea is our ally and if North Korea attacks them, we have to be ready to deploy troops. In addition to all of this, North Korea is known for giving missiles to rogue nations like Iran and Syria. They have missiles that could hit Alaska or Hawaii.

North Korea has nuclear weapons and a method to deliver them.

Prior to 9-11 Afghanistan was home to Al Quedia.

Since then- the Taliban and Al quedia have been toppled and Afghanistan under Karzi is supposed to be an ally. Our troops are still there to help keep Karzi and the current Afghan government in power.

Neither, but since the Taliban never handed over bin laden when he was in Afghanistan we destroyed their forces. They have almost no leadership and can't effectively fight off the US besides a few minor ambushes or suicide bombings, and while they waste their time on that we're trying to stabilize a government the people elected and help girls go to school without being shot or having acid thrown on them.
