Late-night fun in downtown Chicago aside from bars?

Hey!

So a friend and I will be visiting Chicago next Saturday night from out of the state for a concert. The concert will probably let out between 11 pm and midnight, and because we don't have anywhere to spend the night and would rather not have to pay for a hotel room, we're planning on taking the first bus home on Sunday morning, at 6 am. So we're looking for activities to keep us busy until dawn! We won't have a car, and while we both occasionally drink, we'd be open to some non-alcoholic fun, too! We'll be around the South Lakeshore Drive area for the concert, and will have to end up around Union Station to take our bus home. Anything in that general area or accessible by train, bus or taxi would be awesome!

Thanks!

Update:

Oh no, our plan is to avoid having to "wander the streets"! We'd like to find somewhere safe to spend a few hours before Union Station opens. Any movie theaters or art galleries, perhaps? Diners are awesome, too! We're college students on a budget and safety is our top priority! =)

Hmmm, Union Station closes at midnight and doesn't reopen until 5:30 am. There is a not so far from there an old time late night pub but that closes at 4 am:

A few blocks south of Union Station there's a somewhat famous 24 hr diner:

Late night wandering along the streets is not a good idea. Take a taxi to your destinations.

mark- Chicago is huge. and there are good areas and bad areas. Just like any huge city.

Union Station is in Downtown Chicago and a fairly safe area.

Although I don't walk around late at night there. My daughter and I have been downtown Chicago at 10/11 at night and been safe. You just use your good sense. You don't walk down unpopulated streets, stay in well lite populated areas. You will find many people walking to Union station for the late trians.

College students-trying to hang around Chicago for six plus hours in the middle of the night is not a good idea. You are not going to find any movie theaters, restuarants or art galleries open past 1am. Really think about this. Can you just sit at a Starbucks for 4+ hours?

Know exactly where you are going to go, how to get there and how long you can be there, before you make the trip.

At night by the lake, it can get very cold and very windy

You probably got the thumbs down for your answer because your answer makes you seem like someone who does not know much about Chicago. Chicago covers about 230 square miles and has thousands of miles of streets. There are streets in dangerous neighborhoods and streets in safe neighborhoods. The areas being asked about in the question are safe areas, if you were more familiar with Chicago you would know this is true, There are huge amounts of information about Chicago available online. I suggest you do some research and then visit Chicago to see for yourself.

You should go on a road shuttle to a close via seashore or location in chicago the place u havent been before but u consistently wanted to. Believe me ive achieved this and it's super enjoyable and now not very highly-priced. Excellent success!

I--thank my lucky stars I live in Sydney Australia, but just last night saw an episode of COPS on TV. A Chicago edition. The cop starts off as usual in his car telling the camera he is off to a drug bust and as it is 10-00 pm the streets are NO GO ZONES . He says he hopes he will finish his shift and go home alive, well and safe. This is a COP--armed with squad car, radio, taser, gun and shotgun and --the law and HE is scared to be out on the street at 10-00 pm. And you and your pal are just going to wander around trhose streets? Good luck pal !

    EDIT LATER

SIX thumbs down? Boy oh boy, I had no idea the truth that Chicago streets as attested to By Chicago Police on a TV show as being very dangerou at night and that mentioning it upsets you lot so much? Maybe you should do something about it instead of being so touchy if it bothers you that much?
