I think the best way to rid any relaxer from your hair while you are transitioning is to do the big chop. I did the big chop about a year ago, and now I am able to put my hair back in a medium-sized ponytail, and when I stretch it, it goes pass my ears. Doing the big chop may even speed up your hair growth. When your hair gets to a length where you are able to braid it, I would suggest wearing braids as a protective style to achieve length faster.
