Three years is quite awhile, and should also mean that you guys know how to communicate especially about your sex life. I would suggest being open and honest. Be like "babe, I was thinking and I want to try something new in the bedroom. What do you think of anal? We could go slow, see how we like it, what do you think?"
I was with my ex for 3 yrs and suggested anal at the 2 yr mark. It was weird to ask at first but I'm so glad I did because it proved to be a great component of my sex life. I don't know how sexually adventurous your girl is but you do. You should have a guess as to her reaction. If she is very conservative in bed and doesn't like to experiment with positions, or isn't aggressive in bed these are signs that she's less willing to experiment.
It's always worth a shot asking, make sure if she says yes that you do some research before engaging in anal sex because there are some health risks.
Good luck!

Most guys do like anal sex but it is something that only should be done if you are in a committed relationship with someone you trust. Seriously! If a guy pressures you and you feel uncomfortable or think that the only way you can get him to stay is by "shutting up & taking it" then find someone else - FAST!

Well when you do anal she'll need to take a pill I couldn't tell you the pill because i'v forgot what its called but it makes her sh** so you don't get it on your penis when you put it in her it'll force it out of her it's not her fault but still

Could be quite unpleasant, and she may freak out at even the thought of it.
You may need a new GF as not many take to that.

Ask her directly and tell her how much you want that ,if you both feel comfortable it's ok if not her opinion will be decisive ,
