i had an ovary ultrasound just last month. They told me to drink 32 oz of water within an hour to fill my bladder up to to a normal ultrasound over your lower stomach. But, i competely forgot to drink the water before i went to my appointment so i got there and started guzzling but when she started the ultrasound she said my bladder was empty so.... she had to do a transvaginal ultrasound. She left the room so i could remove the bottom half of my clothes and i laid on a cushion on the bed so that i was in an easier angle, she also gave me a blanket to cover up..
Then she returns and handed ME the camera stick thingy and told me to insert it in like a tampon. This thing was NOT the size of a tampon, much bigger. It was incredebly awkward. Once it was in she held it and moved it around to veiw my ovarys which for me was very painful but it was because my uterus was tilted so it was in the way so she had to put much more pressure then normal. If you have a normal uterus then you shouldn't feel much pain. It took about 15 minutes.
I hope i didn't make u worry or scared, I don't know which type of ultrasound u will have but if they instructed u to drink water then it won't be a transvaginal, unless your bladder isn't full. Also remember that these people do several ultrasounds a day. You have nothing to be embarrassed of. Goodluck!

I've been for an ultrasound twice. You have to drink lots of water (LOTS!) at least an hour before your appointment so that your bladder is full and they can see your ovaries properly. Once you're in the room, you lie down and pull your top up so that your tummy is exposed. They then put some gel over your stomach and use the camera/scanner (don't know the name) for the scan. It's all over in less than 10 minutes!
It's nothing to be worried about, you'll be fine. You don't have to undress or anything. I did not go for the internal exam (where they put a camera in your vagina) so I can't comment on that. But honestly that's all there is to an ultrasound :)

I had one last year, in UK. Had to drink lots of water, they don`t keep you waiting long.
Then lay down on couch with gel smeared on tummy and a scanner passed over it while they watch it on a screen. They wanted to do a vaginal scan so let me go to the toilet first. Everything was explained to me as they did it and I knew what to expect. They let my doctor know the same day that there was something wrong with me. Not a bad experience - you can cope with this for the good of your health and peace of mind. All the best.
