Here, the easiest way to learn a language (for me at least) is to start by listening to it spoken. Start to get a feel for how the language sounds. Watch Russian t.v, or listen to the radio in Russian, or maybe even just listen to Russian music. Then start to learn the alphabet, and the sounds each letter makes, and how they sound together. Then move on to learning basic vocab, and scentence stucture. Aim to learn about 15 or so words per day. Slowly start lesrning more grammar rules and what not. This helps me a lot, but he best way to do so would probably be taking a class. You can use like Rossetta stone but you may need a grammar book, seeing as it dosen't have any translations on the program. Hope this helps!

Honestly Take a class. I joined the Military and they taught me Russian. In a Year I was nearly Fluent. By 4 years I had started to Develop an Accent when speaking the language. Search for Language Schools near you as they often treat learning a language like a bonafide school.
If you live near Washington DC, I would recommend Washington Language Center.

If you want to work in Russia, then yes, they have rights to require to you know Russian.
Well, Russian is more complicated, than Chinese and Japanese. So, you will have a lot of problems.
If you are a valuable expert, then I think the Russians would could find a translator for you.

textbooks, of course. grammar drills, too. BEST is to find a Russian speaker and meet with them and speak Russian. i am not "book-dumb", but found i learn best if i speak Russian with PEOPLE. and expose yourself to text: labels, newspapers, advertisements, etc.EVERYTHING Russian.
