How do I apply foundation and concealor?
I've been wearing makeup for years and I love it, but I haven't worn foundation or concealor in over 6 years because I hate the feeling of it. I have a very fancy dinner in two weeks and I would like to wear a bit of makeup to just make my skin look smoother. I don't want to go overboard, but I'm just looking for a couple tips for concealor and foundation. I have completely forgotten how to apply it! Please help. Its my first date with my best friend as well and I want him to see me as more feminine than he's seen me before.
Thank you!

That's so cute that you have started to date your best friend! <3
You can use one of the three techniques to apply your foundation, brush, sponge or fingers. I prefer to use my fingers as I get a much more precise coverage and I find it helps melt the product onto my skin. If you use a sponge, you can also get a full coverage but you must remember to dab at the skin, never rub with a sponge as it can leave your skin feeling irritated and red. If you don't want to wear to much foundation or if you don't have for example any acne like I do to cover up, I suggest you use a bb cream. BB cream will just enhance and slightly cover your natural face like a tinted moisturizer. I will make a list of recommended products. You could also use a foundation primer, even if you wear bb cream just to make your make up last longer.
foundations&bb creams : (drugstore) £4.99-12.00
Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation
Revlon photo ready foundation (I recommend this one, best for lighting and photo's)
Bourjois healthy mix foundation (light weight)
Soap and Glory show good face
Rimmel Wake me up foundation (very light feeling so it shouldn't feel iritated)
Rimmel match perfection
Max Factor xeperience weightless foundation
Max factor skin illusion

Start of with a clean fresh face. Before going somewhere special like a dinner I like to exfoliate using a facial scrub (e.g. neutrogena or clean and clear) so the make up applies better. Then make sure you moisturise so that the make up goes on smoothly. I also use a face primer as this will ensure the make up lasts all night and helps it go onto your skin more nicely. It also helps stop the foundation for creasing or sinking into your fine lines.
After that, I usually apply a thin layer of foundation with a foundation brush (you can use your hands - but brushes apply better). After the thin layer, if you feel as though you need to apply another layer, do so, as foundation is buildable. Make sure you blend the foundation properly around the sides of your face and also onto your neck (you don't want your face to be a different colour to your neck as you want it to look as natural as possible). There are many great foundations available but you can't go wrong with Revlon Colour Stay from the drugstore.
I then apply concealer - i recommend using concealer after foundation as concealers are meant to cover imperfections or dark under eye circles and sometimes foundation is enough to do this alone. Applying unneccesary concealrer before foundation may make your face appear cakey. Apply the concearler under your eyes to cover any circles and to brighten the eye area. Then apply to any blemishes or discolouration on your face that the foundation did not cover. You can apply concealer with your hands as the warmth of your fingers will make the concealer easier to work with and distribute into your skin better.
After that make sure you use a pressed or loose powder (either is fine and does the trick) to set your face and take away any shine (shine will not look good especially if you take photos). Powder your face using a big, fluffy brush. And put some in your handbag so that you can fix any shine during the night.
Good luck and practice a few times before your special date!! :)

If you want a natural look I would suggest a foundation like Neutrogena Healthy Skin foundation. I use this by pouring some into the cap, putting a few dots all over my face, and then blending it in with a regular makeup brush. You can also use your fingers or a makeup sponge. For concealer just dab a few dots under your eyes and use your ring finger to blend it in. Then set everything with a powder. If it feels like to much then I say just go without! Its ok not to wear any makeup. Good luck with the date!

Clean face first, apply a good moisturizer, I like to conceal first, then apply the foundation. If you don't like the feel of your foundation you might try one of the foam ones.
