Will male dogs kill puppies?

This just a theoretical question, i'm not intending to breed or anything, it's just for my neighbor who is worried about their male dog attacked their new litter of puppies.

Basically, she has a male toy poodle who is ten and he is castrated- so not the father. Her b***ch will be having a litter of medium sized dogs, The b***ch is 3 and a bit and has grown up with the toy poodle her whole life, they get on very well with one another. Would the toy poodle attack the puppies or would he be more likely to look after them or...

Thanks in advance

Also no answers from people against dog breeding as it really doesn't interest me, i haven't chosen to breed my neighbor has, so please just answers, answering my question :)

Yes, that is possible, but it's more likely that the Dam will want to kill any other dogs that come near her litter. Good breeders have the common sense to keep ALL other dogs away from the whelping box/Dam and pups. It's not unheard of that a Dam will even kill her puppies if she's stressed enough.

ANY dog that is not the dam of the puppies will more than likely kill and eat them. ANY dog.

Mum needs a whelping box in a room to herself (with 24/7 human supervision of course) until the pups are at least 4 weeks old.

Even then, introductions needs to be cautious and highly supervised until the pups are at least 8 weeks old.

BEFORE your neighbor breeds please encourage her to get her vet on speed-dial and find a reputable, experienced breeder willing to mentor her/be there at 4am to do CPR on a puppy/watch mum and litter when she has to take the failing cleft-palate pup in to be euthanized/etc. Both the vet and that experienced breeder should be the ones fielding these questions.

Oh nicely...it relatively is probably greater advantageous off which you in basic terms have a million domestic dog to handle now. interior the destiny, you would be attentive to that each thing that went on replaced into incorrect. a million. The animals could desire to have been spayed/neutered. 2. in case you have been going away whilst your lady replaced into in warmth, you mothers and fathers could desire to have been greater in charge and cancelled the holiday. 3. puppies could desire to be thoroughly supervised each and all the time, particularly from different canines. Male/woman, aunts, grown siblings, father, despite. canines kill puppies each and all the time. it relatively is area of their nature. 4. you do no longer positioned 3 week puppies outdoors no count how advantageous the climate. you do no longer could desire to do away with your male canine. basically neuter him.

A decent breeder keeps all other animals separated from the bit** and her litter. Period.

She needs to keep the male right out of the way.

Incidentally -- NONE of us are against dog breeding... we are against byb'ing as is the case here.

    That depends on the dog.

I know that pitbull moms eat the pups sometimes, but I think that they are usually dead first when that happens.

It depends. If they are his puppies and the mom is close by he probably won't.
