Why is Lao Tzu now spelled Laozi?

I think that's just lousy.

Update:

Yeah, phonetic transliteration of different languages can vary; like Moslem and Muslim. I have been a fan of the Tao Te Ching since I was in my teens and I just noticed the spelling "Laozi" on the web a little while ago.

Bummer. I like the Tao Te Ching myself. I did not know they'd changed that spelling, but they always gotta mess with something, especially when it comes to Chinese.

    Blessings on your Journey!

It's a phonetic translation....that is to say, since Chinese and English both have completely different alphabets, the spelling of the translation from their characters to ours may very. Both are technically correct.
