Unable to mount .iso file in Windows 8?

Hi,

While I very much appreciate the innovations on Microsoft's part and support the direction they are going in with Windows 8, updating (From Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 8 Pro) turned out to give me more troubles rather than benefits.

So, I tried to mount an .iso image with Daemon Tools. That didn't work, since the program simply stated that it wasn't able to mount the file. Well, I then found out that mounting and burning .iso files is now a native feature of Windows 8 (which is great!). So I uninstalled Daemon Tools and tried it with the native feature, sure that it would work. It didn't. After trying to mount the file, the little blue circle appeared next to my cursor, where it stayed until Windows finally stated, after something like 15 minutes (seriously):

"Sorry, there was a problem mounting the file."

Great. I restarted. Same thing.

I installed all the updates and haven't found any solution that worked for me! Seriously?! Do I really have to install Windows 7 again? How pathetic is that?! Sorry, I always get worked up over problems with the Computer, for which there are no obvious solutions.

Yes, it's pretty interesting how I could receive such an answer, especially since I specifically stated that I don't wan't to downgrade to Windows 7, bay saying that it would be a pathetic solution to the problem ^^.

1. Okay I'll try that as a last resort (well, before installing Windows 7 again, that is xD), but atm I'm sick at home and I would need to go and buy an empty disc in the city :D. I tried the things with two different .iso files though, and I know that one of them works because a friend used it too.

I then tried another one (Virtual CloneDrive) and it will only display some options when started, like how many drives I want to set up and stuff. But after clicking OK, nothing happens, no virtual drive is there and even nothing happens when trying to "open" the .iso with the respective programs. I'm going crazy! Something doesn't want me to mount those .iso files, haha!

    Don't you just love it when someone "answers" by telling you to do something completely different, like scrapping a new OS and going back to the old one? That being said: I've run into some similar issues with my own upgrade:

    1. First thing to check would be if the ISO is even valid (since from the sounds of things you might have a corrupt ISO) - you could do this by burning it to a disc and then trying to read the disk.

    2. Check to see if the built in ISO mounting feature in Win 8 is giving you an error, but mounting the ISO anyway (go ahead and laugh, but I've seen at least one system do this consistently). Just browse to "My Computer" after attempting to mount the ISO and receiving the error message, and see if the Virtual drive shows up.

    3. It's possible that Daemon Tools is conflicting with Win8. You might try uninstalling it and seeing if Win8's built-in ISO tools start working (I say this because 15 minutes of blue circle is... unreasonable to expect, to say the least).

    4. Daemon Tools may need to be reinstalled in order to work properly. My own virtual drive software quit working after the Win8 upgrade, and simply needed to be reinstalled.

    5. Lastly, Daemon Tools may be completely incompatible with Win8 - You can do your own searching online to find out if that's the case. I know that DVD Fab Virtual Drive is free and works "properly" with Win8 Pro (http://www.dvdfab.com/mlink/download.php?g=VIRTUAL...

    Hope at least one of those options helps out! :)

    that's all wrong way to do it 8 is a plop, try the recovery back to 7, u can burn a image Go to Control Panel>All Control Panel Items>Windows File Recovery>choose 'Create a System Image' in the left pane>then create a system repair disc to coincide with the system image. (just follow the prompts)
