Are older blu ray players just as good as new ones?

I have a blu ray player I bought when they just came out does this one still do what the brand new ones do? As in do the new ones look better or something?

Most of the newer players have more memory so they load quicker and they are more able to navigate and interpolate errors in the disk, also the color renditions are probably a little more acurate with less bleed than on early players. The chip sets are newer more advanced; so chip sets that were available on only the most expensive high cost units will now compare to chip sets that bargain units have.....and more expensive players will have better chip sets than were available at any cost....This is in addition to all the additional features that newer players have like internet connectivity; One disadvantage is that newer players do not have component out put and some that do only put out a 480p signal throiugh component while older players would output a 720P signal through Component Cables...The newer players are HDMI only with composite for testing and service only....

Blu rays made in... say... 2007 might not looked quite as good as a blu ray that just came out, but that's not a matter for the player. If your player is older, it will give you picture that looks, for all intensive purposes, exactly as good as the picture from a brand new blu ray player.

Bottom line, there's really no need to upgrade to a newer blu ray player, unless you want more apps, wifi, etc. Otherwise, your player (if updated properly) will be just the same as a new one.

    Hope that helps!

Keep in mind that BluRay disks are not simple video files like DVD's. They are actually computer programs written in BD-Java. Waiting 60 seconds to load a disk in the first gen machines was common because the player basically had to read the disk, compile the program, then start running.

The newer machines load a lot faster. In the early days the PS3 gave the best image because Sony had a huge investment in the format and the PS3 has huge processing power.

Today a basic $97 player rivals the image produced by the Sony PS3. We are in about the 4th generation of players, improvements have been made to HDMI, etc.

If you have a first gen player - now would be a good time to upgrade. There have been a lot of changes since the first gen players came out.

Panasonic SC-BTT490 3D Blu-Ray Disc 5.1 Surround Sound Home Theater System sound is ok for a system at this price, not really great quality but decent. However, it is poorly designed, the wires for the two rear speakers were way too short. I can't really attach them at the back and run the wire on the walls. Still debating on what to do with them. I can't really buy new wires because of the connector without having to cut it. It is currently just laying on the floor.

They definately are! blu- ray players are fairly new, too. There havent been that many advances in that type of technology yet. No matter what, blu ray is blu ray. You will always get up to the optical quality of the disk.
