Arcade (place):The arcade was a magical place where people went to spend quarters on old machines, mostly for bragging rights.

Arcade (genre): games where you have a certain number of lives and earn points for doing the objective of the game. Arcade games end when you run out of time or when you lose all lives. When an arcade game ends, there is a leader board of hi-scores by previous players. If you had a high enough score you could enter your initials.

The place called the arcade is defined as "an amusement center having coin-operated games." It's where you use tokens, quarters or whatever currency in the games and you can play them until game over. Back in the day it had classics but now there are more modern games found in them.

It comes from French, with the original definition being "a long arched building or gallery."

What is the date limit on which arcade games you can use? If you can use games in the middle-late 80's I would choose some of those (like ghosts n' goblins (1985); he went through the hardest levels in video games with the weakest armor (only 2 hits) and battled in his underpants just to save the girl he loved). Most games from the late 70's and early 80's were completely devoid of any story whatsoever. Things were just there. Hope this helped you narrow down your choices.

Well, arcade means an establishment, public area, etc., containing games of a mechanical and electronic type, as pinball and video games, that can be played by a customer for a fee.

I think it comes from an itallien or maybe french word meaning arches, but I could be wrong.
